I've never been in Australia in the winter time, just until early May in Sydney once in the late nineties. I hear that skiing is not a big sport in Australia because you don't have seriously high mountains there, is that right?

Hi TAC, I've just had a quick look on google maps, I know America is very much like Oz in that it's a huge country, but Nevada isn't far from Calafornia, I've been there and think the weather is very similar to Perth ... is Nevada high above sea level ?... still can't imagine the snow ? What's going on there ?

We are at 5,000 feet, high desert, and yes, the climate in California is very much like southern most Australia.

Nevada is next door to California but our climate differences are like night and day because of our higher elevation.

If you look closely at the map you will see there is a mountain range along most of the California - Nevada boarder. The Lake Tahoe area is a good example of this with mountains as high as 8 to 10,000 feet.

I've never experienced the snow here, but it does snow, have a look at the snowy mountains ... I went to Thredbo a few years ago, just before the ski season started and we went to Mt Kosciuszko ... it was really lovely and really cold lol

Ok,  I haven't looked at the map for this one, but that moutain range that covers California, the Nevada Border,  is that where it says Hollywood ?, is that  the same area that we're talking about ? Please excuse my ignorance

No, that's the Los Angeles basin, a long way from the state line mountain range. Some day Los Angeles will probably fall off into the ocean along with the Hollywood sign and Carson City/Las Vegas will be coastal towns LOL.

Good Sunday morning Soozie, it's still cold here and I think it might snow again tonight.

Have you ever experienced an earthquake? I've experienced about 6 quakes greater than 7.0.
