I sat down briefly tonight and thought I would watch some television.  First thing that struck me was the fact that I haven't even turned on a television in my house since last week.  I scrolled through the program guide, scanning over 300 channels, and didn't see anything I cared to watch.  Now I'm at the point where I have to seriously ask if it's worth paying the money for something I so rarely use.

Between online content and streaming services, I'm just not seeing much point in having cable television anymore.

Has anyone else here cut the cord or given it any serious thought?

I have not had cable in years either, not since like 2009?

I do not get this about cable though - So the programming sucks, it costs a minimum of $100 a month for repetitive sucky programming featuring white trash, people pay for this, then complain that there is nothing to watch.

But I beat the system yes siree Neal and Bob, I watch "nothing" for free!

In fact, if i want to watch Jerry Springer, Cops, Intervention,  or other trashy people shows, i just look out the window. Sometimes there are even people showing why you should not use meth.

I am not really even kidding - all the ills of society that people watch on TV, It is all in my very neighborhood. It would be CRAZY for me to pay for cable.

Looks like I'm late to the cord cutting party.  I'm not even sure why I am having any internal debate about cutting the cord.  I'm beyond the point of being uninterested in the majority of programming and have reached a place where television actually annoys me at this point.

Time to bid adieu to the recycled programming, political propaganda, "reality" shows, and celebrity worship offered up by good old cable television.

When the Satellite folks jumped the bill to $185 a month ... The Sarge's sought out and implemented cheaper options.

Bought a $30 HD antennae for local.

Roku, Sling TV and Amazon Prime for cable-type programming/content.

Haven't looked back.

$5,000 richer in the last 3 years.

People really have no concept of the kind of money they're throwing to watch The Ol' Boob Tube.

It adds up.

Almost as fast as smoking did.

Prior to my retirement 2 years ago I worked for the now 2nd largest cable company in the U.S.   That being said I cut the cable cord shortly after retirement and spend my time on the computer and streaming.  Big savings.  (by the way I did not get free cable, my house was located in another cable company's territory so I had to pay)
