Hi. My name is K, and I'm 44 years old.

I'd like to introduce myself, and tell you a little about my story.

I hope I will be welcome here.

I first tried smoking before my 15th birthday, and by the time I was 16, I was already smoking a pack a day.

By the time I reached my 30s, I was up to two packs a day.

A few times throughout the years, I quit for a while, once for as long as several years, but I always went back to it. I just missed smoking so much.

In 2013, I was about to turn 40, and still smoking 2 packs a day. My family was begging me to quit, so I decided to try e-cigs. I liked vaping, and quickly replaced smoking regular cigarettes with the e-cigs.

I've now been vaping for almost 4 1/2 years, and I need to quit. I need to quit smoking completely. I need to give up the e-cigs, because all I did was replace one addiction  with another.

My 20 year old daughter recently was in tears, begging me to quit the e-cigs, and be totally free of nicotine, and smoking.

I promised her I would.

My quit date is tomorrow, and I'm scared.

How will I fill the void that quitting the e-cigs will cause?

The e-cigs, and regular cigarettes before that, have been my only friend for a long long time.

I need some support, so I'm reaching out, hoping that I will be welcome here.

Early tomorrow morning when I wake up, I hope I can come here, instead of reaching for my e-cig.

I look forward to getting to know you all.

Hi KT 1973!! You are more than welcome to join our family of quitters here :) This is a small but very dedicated group of people who all share the same thing ..... an addiction to nicotine and a strong desire to achieve freedom from that.

You will get lots more advice from others as well so I'll keep this short for now. Number one suggestion is to read the "pinned" threads on the Quit Smoking Discussion board that you'll see on the main board. Education about this addiction is key to helping you quit. Just as key is a commitment from you to see it through NO MATTER WHAT! Take the NOPE pledge every day with us (it's also on the main board). NOPE stands for Not One Puff Ever. The whole thing is really that simple. Not easy to do but very simple.

In terms of how to cope with not smoking or without the e-cig. you just have to do it. The longest part and perhaps the hardest part of quitting is having your brain retrain itself to function comfortably without smoking. It takes a while but it WILL happen for you just like it has for everyone else who sticks it out.

I would suggest changing up your routine even just in small ways. Jump right into the shower first thing in the morning, when you were probably used to lighting up before. Maybe lay off the coffee for a while if you were used to smoking with a coffee. Come here and read, watch the videos, post up and tell us how you're doing. Distract yourself in what ever way you can. Drink lots of water too. Keep hydrated.

Like I said, you'll get loads of advice from others here too. I look forward to seeing you start down the road to freedom KT!!

(So much for me keeping it short?? lol)

Welcome aboard KT.

I don't have any experience with the E-cigs, but all the same rules of addiction apply.  Take time to educate yourself about the addiction and commit to the quit.  It's a simple process that will reward you exponentially.

My quit date is tomorrow, and I'm scared.

How will I fill the void that quitting the e-cigs will cause?

You'll figure it out as you go.  The list of things you can do instead of smoking or vaping is practically infinite.  Deep breathing exercises are good.  Any form of physical exercise is a great alternative.  You can listen to music or read something.  Even stacking BB's is preferable to smoking.  The choice is yours.  Quitting only requires that you cease smoking and/or vaping.  What you do in place of that is not important so long as you maintain complete focus on the mission at hand.

I look forward to getting to know you all.

Right back at you.  Enjoy the ride.

Hi K and welcome!

So glad to hear that you're ditching the e-cigs too.  I won't go into my tirade about those.  Since you already had a quit of several years and still missed it so much, I would suggest you read and educate yourself on the pitfalls of "romancing" the cigarette.  You have to shatter the delusion that cigarettes were enjoyable, relaxing, calming, etc. Only when you see them for what they truly are (slow killers, sappers of health and wealth, and accelerators of aging) will you stop longing for them.

You can do this!  Let us know if you need any help - or just need to rant.

Another important thing for the early part of your quit KT - don't look too far ahead. Take it 1 day, 1 hour, even 1 minute at a time for now. That's why we commit to NOPE daily because we are just telling ourselves that we will not take one puff ever for today :) And don't be afraid or scared about quitting. Be excited about it!! If you were getting the best possible gift imaginable, tomorrow morning would you be scared about that? Of course not. Don't be afraid of failing either because YOU are completely in control starting tomorrow. You decide whether you smoke or not from here on in!

Hi K. Welcome to the Quit Train and congratulations on your decision to quit nicotine once and for all. The education you have access to here and the support you will receive will help but most important, in my opinion, is your outlook and your resolve to stay away from any and all sources of nicotine. For good. That's all you have to (not) do and you will be successful.

For me, focusing on and looking forward to all the benefits of quitting helped keep me solid in my quit during difficult times. Please let us hear from you tomorrow, get yourself a ticker, keep yourself busy and don't look back. You can do this!

Best wishes,

Peace Train

Glad you are here & are ready to stop smoking! Ecigs or cigs both are harmful & happy you're ready to put them behind you! I recently quit & all I did was not smoke every second of the day! I read, posted, watch videos, texted, read more, all day about nicotine/cig addiction! There's plenty of education here & out there, most important just don't put the ecig in your mouth! I'd suggest getting rid of ALL SMOKING MATERIALS! EVERYTHING! I would have picked up if it would have been available! Hang in there! Slow & steady wins the race... I know you can do this too!

I want to thank each of you for responding to my post, and the warm welcome. I'm so glad I found this site.

I will try to answer your questions in a while, but for now I just want to say I am committing to NOPE, Not One Puff Ever.

This is my quit day, and since 6:32 this morning, I have not used the e-cig.

Thank you all for your support, and I know I'll be here often. Very often, probably.

Quitting this addiction is probably the hardest thing I'll ever have to do, and I need all of your support.

Thank you for being here.

Great news KT...take it steady...one day at a time...one minute if you have too...

Take smoking or Vaping off the table no matter what going on in your life..

I agree do the daily NOPE post..it makes you stronger...

I would stay clear of the chicks and sticks game...you will more than likely suffer from combustion..lol...

Glad your here !!!!

Hey! A fellow 1973 baby!  :yahoo:  Welcome KT!

I'm glad you found us here. There's some great advice above. Take it one tiny bit at a time. Don't worry about tomorrow. Just focus on right now and NOPE. You can do this.

I tried vaping for a bit a few years ago, but I always went back to the cigarettes. Either way, it was still a nicotine delivery system. Educate yourself about nicotine addiction, read the posts here, watch the videos. I found having all of that information on hand really helped me understand what I was dealing with in terms of the addiction. And if I could understand it, I could beat it.

You've got this and we're here any time you need us.
