It's amazing, It has only been a month and a half since I Demanded that smoking monster leave and I haven't had one coughing spell since.  That is big reward for me.  I no longer have coughing fits when I am talking to people.  My grandchildren have even mentioned it to me saying "Grandma, we haven't heard you coughing anymore".   :D  :D  :D  :D

Fantastic Breathless!  Just got back from a coast-to-coast trip and was sitting next to a smoker who was hacking the whole 5.5 hours.  It's great to be free from that wretchedness.

The benefits of quitting start right out of the gate.

Congratulations Breathless.

That used to be me too B57! It's one of the things I notice most about my own quit and am the most happy about too :) The other thing I have noticed is, I haven't had my normal number of colds this year. In fact, I haven't been sick since I quit smoking in January. Normally, I would have had a couple of colds by now. It's great!! I love being healthier than I was when I smoked :)

I used to attribute the coughing to allergies.  I do have seasonal allergies but amazingly since quitting smoking, my allergies don't actually cause coughing.  Headache?  Yes.  Coughing? Uh... no.

4 years later, and I can tell you that I am still thrilled to be free of that hacking stupid cough.  I had that dry scratchy cough and had to clear my throat constantly because I was embarrassed to cough while talking to someone - they might know I smoke if I cough in front of them!!!  Ugh!  Clearing my throat was such a nice sound over coughing - NOT!!!  Both were disgusting.  As soon as I got alone, I'd sure hack it up.

Ahhhh freedom from that feels so good!!

Congrats to you for being free!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
