I once paid good money for a session of acupuncture....

Walked out of the clinic and just lit up...saying to myself how crap it was...one foot in ..and one foot out ..

And now 4 years and a couple of days later, you've got both your precious feet IN on your victorious quit!

You're an inspiration to me, Doreen and I really need one this evening. I got sucker punched out of the blue with strong urges and crazy thoughts about smoking. It's been going on most of the evening. This comes in the midst of maddening issues with my mom and remembering my old "coping" method (aka suicide method) of dealing with this long-standing relational problem. Yes, I was (am) addicted to nicotine but It's also so clear now that I used smoking as an escape from that situation- as a way of pushing down my emotions. Not that it ever actually worked for any length of time or solved anything- that's the part I have to remember and really take in. Fact is, it really only made things worse because I never faced it or dealt with it. So here I am in the harsh unfiltered light of reality, staring down this old problem. I remember that there's a good Joel Spitzer video on this very issue, which I intend to watch tonight.

Thanks for "listening" whoever has taken the time to read. I just wanted to put this out there in the hope that, by doing so, I can release some of the negative energy that's been brewing tonight. This is NOT an SOS: no way and I going to smoke. I'm just stuck in a loop of really stupid thoughts that are making me pretty miserable tonight. This too shall pass...

Thanks PT..

That nico monster is still sitting on your shoulder and whispering down your ear...

We all used smoking as a coping mechanism to cope with life curveballs..not knowing we Cope better without nicotine withdrawal every twenty minutes..

Every time you swat him off..it makes you stronger..before long ,he will give up and move along..

When the going gets tough, come back here and read all positive stuff to help you..

This is why we tell newbies to stay close..so negative thoughts don't get a grip..

Do some Qi Gong..it chills you out..and puts you in a peaceful place..

It's easier than me finding you swinging that frying pan lol..

We are here to help you travel along side you on your journey ...xx

Thoughts come and go and they have exactly as much power as we give them.

You've dispelled the myths and lies of the cigarette.  The irrational whims of the addicted mind never survive the light of truth.

You are doing great PeaceTrain.  Roll on!

Double digits days nic-free!

Outside of waking up at odd hours with very active dreams, I haven't noticed much in the way of withdrawals. Throats a bit sore, and the first 5 days were depressing (saying goodbye to the worst BF ever) Even made it thru having beers a couple times, which was an important hurdle for me.

Doing Great Sam :) Sounds like you've already been tested a couple of time and during the early part of your quit. That's good that you were able to make it through those issues "Smoke-Free"! Every time you win one against this addiction, you become stronger to fight the next battle. Just never become complacent and let your guard down. This addiction is sneaky like that and will know exactly when to attack you at your weakest moment. You CAN beat it though. Just use the tools you are developing now :)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
