I am new to this forum and would definitely appreciate any advice from some current ex-smokers.  I need to quit NOW because I am scheduled for oral surgery in just three weeks due to many years of smoking, which took its toll on my gums, causing serious periodontal disease.  Any quick tips for a newbie would be great!

Welcome to the board!!  Please take a moment and tell us more about you on the Introductions Forum.  The antcipation of quitting an be worse than the quit itself.  Just take it one moment at a time.  Lots of great info and resources here on the board...as well as lots of people who have been right where you are now.  If we can do this, you can, too!

'I need to quit now!'

I was planning to quit but couldn't decide & started thinking didn't really want to quit, etc! Next day, I quit! Not the ways suggested but it is working for me! Get rid of cigs, lighter & other items tonight & don't smoke in the morning. I've been w/o since June 25 - today! Never thought I could do it & you can too! Be kind to yourself, buckle up & just don't lite up! If you really want to quit, make your mind up, make a plan, list of reasons to quit, whatever you feel will help & quit. I didn't do anything except the quit part then joined the great folks here! Support is important! I had really rough time so researched & got herbal supplements & more vitamins! You can quit!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
