Day 1

Recommended Posts

I write this as i lay in my bed, the last few weeks i have stressed myself out about smoking, playing with the idea of quitting. The past 3 months i have been kicking myself every time i bought a pack of cigarettes. I have 2 friends who recently quit, they make it look so easy, what is wrong with me that i cant just jump? Why do i torture myself going hours without a cigarette to finally break down and buy a pack because i have put myself through mental anguish. I am jealous that they find quitting so easy, when i tend to hyperventilate when i try. But in the morning i will do it again.

Here goes nothing.

Everyone here was a previous smoker...we all started where you are.each and every one will testify to how great life is without the addiction ruling your every move...but.... You have to jump in and commit to your quit. we are here to offer support in any way we can.... Any questions or comments, jump in and ask. The more active you are here, the better chances you have to succeed...

Hi Kellemae! Welcome to the Quit Train. Quitting smoking is the best thing you can possibly do for yourself and your future. You have already heard from a couple of our members here with multi year quits going so you see, it really can be done. I am still pretty new to this quitting thing but I now know that I will make it to being permanently quit.

Yes, for most of us, it's hard initially but it does get easier the more time you put into your quit without smoking. That's the key. Once you stop it's Not One Puff Ever! That's the NOPE pledge. One puff and you are right back to the start again. It becomes a never ending loop of you feeding your addiction. You said it yourself. You break down and buy some smokes then go through the whole process again. You have to just stop period and put up with the early withdrawal symptoms. It will get better and it won't kill you. Continuing to smoke just might some day.

The whole process is very simple. You have to want to quit more than you want to smoke. Easy to say, tough to do but so worth it. Coming here for support is another key to being successful and read, read, read all you can about this addiction because education is key as well. A ton of Videos available here as well.

Make your decision and never look back! Freedom from this addiction is yours if you want it :)

Welcome Kellemae!  Quitting is not always easy but it is doable.  I recently hit my 5 year mark and I am still in disbelief that I was able to do it.  In the beginning of my quit, I fell completely apart!  I cried often and I'm not a crier!  The key is to make the decision and stick to it no matter what.  If you do that then before long you'll find yourself on the other end of the quit living a smoke free life and wondering why you didn't quit sooner.

Glad to have you with us.  Let us know what we can do to help.

Ok, iv watched 3 hrs of videos read dozens of your posts.... and frankly i need to get on with my day... i think i am finally ready. I have had my last cigarette.... i am standing at the kitchen sink with my last pack that has 5 full cigarettes in it.... i am about to do something that i was never able to do before which is purposly running water over these cancer sticks.... i always needed to finish a pack, something is different this time but this is still nerve wracking. What a waste of money is my main thought, but really it was a waste of money to buy the pack in the first place.... here goes nothing, im going to do it, i am strong.

You are strong Kellemae.

You are with others who know just what you're going through.

I really recommend you post in the Daily NOPE Pledge.  It's an oath to yourself and others that will not take that first puff....no matter what.  That's what it's really all about.

Kellemae,

Quitting is the best thing that you will ever do for yourself. It is not easy for everyone, I myself had a hell of a time.

Take it one hour at a time if you have to. Go to the nope thread every hour if you have to and post nope.. just for this hour, and make that promise to yourself that you won't smoke. When you feel stronger extend the time. I found that making a promise one hour and one day at a time is easier than saying never again all at once. We are here for you, to help you through!

Welcome aboard Kellemae. Your new life starts today.

Financial returns are just the beginning of the dividends the quit process offers. Prepare to see positive returns in most every aspect of your life.

I have to focus on the money right now.... i dont see any medical issues but i dont want the medical issues.... i am 31 years old, hated cigarettes when i was a kid.... i started smoking when i turned 18, partially because i could, and partially because i missed the smell in some weird way, both my patents smoked all of my childhood, my father quit to little to late and died at 48 of heart failure. My mom died at 50 still a smoker and had heart issues as well.... i dont want to be like them. But because i dont have any issues medically yet, that does not help in quitting.... i still believe im invincible at times.... but im starting to come to the reality that im not as superhuman as i thought i was. My great grandmother died at 98.... lived a full and healthy life.... she litterally died of old age.... i want to be like her, she smoked for 15 years and quit when she started having children.... im 13 years in at this point.. i dont have kids but i dont need that as a reason, i still need to change my lifestyle because if i dont i will become my worse nightmare

If the finances are a primary motivator, draw on that.  When we quit, we see benefits not even expected.  Some are universal.  Some are very personal.

The process of quitting offers many rewards.  Commit to the quit and the quit will pay you back.

Proceed.

You are not crazy. What you are feeling and thinking is completely normal. These are the tough times we all go through at the start of our quits but you are stronger than that voice so just do what you need to and ignore it. Keep yourself busy and distracted. Change up your routine where possible. Keep hydrated and get as much sleep as you can. They call this first week "hell week" for a reason but it won't kill you and you can make it through. We all have and you will too - just say NOPE!! Very important! Take things an hour at a time. Don't think too far ahead. It's all doable :)

Do not give in! Seems unbearable but hang in....one minute at a time. I am still fresh in my quit but stay here in the board, be good to yourself!

Check this....tomorrow and Thursday are trial days for my daughter and son in law's divorce/custody of children. STRESS! And I will be testifying for my son in law for the sake of my grandkids...! Still no smoking....they do NOT help! If I were still a smoker it would more stress...when can I smoke..how long...or carp I stink st .

Hang in there!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
