So, after posting up about being almost a couple of months into my quit and feeling better and better about not smoking and how not smoking was becoming easier and the attraction to smoking was becoming less, I got blind-sided by a situation that came up out of nowhere causing a huge amount of sudden stress. Well, let me tell you, while I've been dealing with the situation that came up, the urge to smoke has been surprisingly incredible this past day.

I didn't give in and I'm not going to give in to the false promise that having a smoke will help me in any way. I only post this to warn others who might be relatively early in their quit to just be prepared in case something unusual crops up. It's amazing how our addicted mind immediately thinks - "gotta have a smoke to calm yourself down so you can deal with this issue". All the while I'm reminding myself that smoking won't solve my issue, won't change anything but boy oh boy, that voice in my head is really persuasive and very persistent.

This too will pass but it really took me by surprise. I thought I was doing better that this and that I was further along the road to really healing.

Firstly R !!...well done buddy for staying strong in a stressful situation...

Your right of course smoking would,nt have changed a thing...living on life's terms ,without our crutch...

It will get easier...not having nicotine withdrawal adding to the stress is a massive bonus...

Stay strong...I'm proud of you..x

You're doing exactly what you need to be doing.  We conditioned ourselves for years to turn to smoking during stressful times.  It takes a while to recondition ourselves as non-smokers.  You confronted the situation and made the right choice.  With repetition, that choice becomes automatic.

Stick with NOPE and this addiction cannot touch you.

Way to dig deep and stay strong!  Sorry for what is causing you the stress but you handled it well.  Very proud of you.  It truly is an addiction and we know this for certain for many reasons, especially when we realize how dependent every moment and event in our lives was consumed by smoking.  GR8 job!  :)

You should feel so proud of yourself R!!!!!  Never give up, no matter what the issue....cigarettes don't relieve stress....they only cause more if it :)  GREAT JOB!!!!!  You really should celebrate and do something nice for yourself!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
