Hello everyone!

 

My name is John, I am new here. Pretty cool site.

 

Thought it was going to be the hardest thing I have ever done. The first day was the hardest and has gradually gotten easier as the time goes by.

Quit for a girlfriend once in the past, this time is for me!

 

PROUD to be a NONSMOKER!!!  ;)

This site is great help...community and encouragement.

 

Quitting for yourself is the only way.  I (too) have tried to quit for my significant others - - - never works.  You end up resenting them for any struggles.  It's on YOU and you got this!!

I second what Ramona said...you have to quit for yourself.  A commitment made for yourself to yourself is bulletproof to any outside influences.  You'll end up being a better spouse, parent, etc., but those things are byproducts of improving yourself.  

 

Congratulations on quitting.  The process will reward you exponentially.

Thank you guys for the support and the kind words!  Fortunately I have a friend who quit 6 years ago, so when I had a question like, "is this nausea and headache part of the deal" (which were the first few days) I have someone who knows. 

In this stage I am liking being able to taste and smell better than ever before!

Yaaa..it's good to have a quit buddy...one who can help you through the coming months..

Our poor bodies..have some repairing to do..years of feeding it chemicals on a daily basis..

All is temporary..the rewards just keep on coming..

Welcome I actually am the odd one as I quit related to my husband having to have a heart Stent placed....he quit also instantly...whatever the reason congrats on the best choice ever. Been free for so long can't remember how long it has been lol.....about 5 years I think

This past weekend was probably the ultimate test. Went to Hard Rock Casino Tampa with 9 others. I Think three smoke regularly and four smoke only when they drink. 

 

When I first stepped through the door the smell of stale cigarette smoke really hit me as I have been there before when I smoked but never smelled it so strong. 

 

After dinner, we started gambling and drinking. I had smokers all around me and to my surprise it didn't really bother me. Every time I got the craving or "urge" I got out gum. I like "Extra brand peppermint". Needless to say I made it and I really didn't find it that difficult. Glad to know that even when drinking I can handle it. Wasn't sure how that was going to go, so happy to say it went well!!

You are guarding your quit..those smoking friends..will be so secretly jealous..every smoker deep down would love to be free...its all about the attitude...when you think I'm free...you truly are...high five !!!

That stale cigarette smoke is horrid.  When I smoked, I even noticed it but it wasn't as repulsive as it is now.  There is this tavern that I ate at a few times last summer.  It had been non-smoking for a long time, probably 10 years or more.  The first time I walked in I could smell it.  This place had probably been smoked in for well over 100 hundred years.  The smoke must have just marinated the walls and large ceiling beams.

 

Glad that you had a plan and know that YOU CAN do all of the same things that you did when you were a smoker.  Alcohol is probably the biggest reason, or better yet scenario for relapse.  Second only to complacence.  Great Job! :)

Good work John.

 

Important lesson there.  We don't really know what the quit holds in store for us and quite often we worry about things that end up being of no consequence.  Just dive in and deal with things as they come.
