Hi there all,

I am new to this forum and excited to be here.  My name is Jackie and I am 28 yrs old., on my 5th or 6th time of quitting, a few months here and there.  I was a pack a day for the last ten years, and have found it quite easy this time, thus far.  I use the patch to help and seems to work really well for me.  I am really really hoping this is the time for me.  I'd like to be as healthy as I can be for any future children I will hopefully have in the near future.  This has been my biggest motivation.  I really look forward to participating on this forum and reading your stories.  I think it will certainly help in my journey to stay quit, the more support, the better.

My biggest struggle is in the morning and feel like sometimes I have nothing to look forward to.  However, once I get up, and get my patch on, I feel a lot more hopeful.  I hope that with your support and having a place to read through others ideas and posts, it will help me to start feeling more optimistic.  I think my worst fear is that I will fail again but need help to remember that I am in control of that!

Best of luck to you all,

J

Welcome aboard Jackie.  It looks like you are starting this quit with the right mindset and attitude.  That sets you up for success going forward.  With time your morning routine will feel perfectly normal without cigarettes.  It's just a matter of creating new habits and letting the old ways fade away.  What's new today will become routine with repetition.

Congratulations on setting yourself free from cigarettes and we look forward to getting to know you better.  Enjoy the ride.

Welcome and congrats on your quit! :)

Just remember, the goal is to get off of nicotine as soon as possible to get it out of your system thus reducing your chance of relapse.  Guard your quit as if your very life depends on it, because it does.

Hi Jackie and welcome!  This support group is wonderful here!  Mornings were the hardest for me also.  That first morning I didn't know what to do with myself...I was a heavy smoker and chain smoked for a least an hour after getting up.  Gee, I was lost.  That night before going to bed I took time to write down a new morning schedule.  Instead of going immediately to the kitchen where my coffee was already thanks to the automatic setting, I got active.   I showered, made the bed, took more time fixing my hair, etc., before even going to the kitchen.  Then instead of setting up the automatic coffee cycle the night before, I made the coffee.  Just think of all you can do to keep busy...and that "lost" feeling is gone.  Oh yes, another thing, I would step out on my patio and STRETCH and deep breath.  Ahhhhh, felt so good.  Hope this helps.  You can do it!!!!  And bless you for doing it while your young and hopefully, haven't caused health problems.  :)

Hi Jackie,

Welcome.  I used the patches too as part of my quit.  I had worse cravings in the morning too.  I guess I used to smoke more in the morning  to rebuild up the nicotine in my body after the night.  After I quit, each day I was a tiny bit stronger and one by one the cravings faded.  You can do this!!

You're not only changing habits, but also changing your brain.  Those old neural pathways that had us smoking like a chimney first thing in the morning start to diminish with each new decision.  In their place, are the new pathways created by the decision to change course.  Think better, live better.

It may not always feel like it, but quitting smoking is a truly awesome process.

Welcome and congrats on your new life.

Everyday will get easier and everyday will push smoking farther and farther away.

Don't pay no attention to the fact that you are scared that you will fail.  That means it is an option.  Give all your energy and mindfulnees into that fact hat you are a badass and you WILL NOT FAIL!!!  It is not an option.

Keep on keepin on.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
