I'm Back

I'm craving a cigarette this morning. But I know better. And just one means a pack. So I need to get busy and get over it. I slept fine last night after taking an anti anxiety pill. But sleep helps me have the strength to say "NO".

How are you doing ?

 

I see you were craving this morning.... or yesterday morning (I can never tell what day anyone posts with the times being so whacked on here).

 

Please check in. And talk/ vent/ scream here if you need to.

 

Or simply acknowledge it and ignore it.

 

But don't give in to it. The ride is still going...... this part may not be as much fun but you're getting closer to the sun shine filled days that it will slow down to a nice breeze blowing through your hair.

You know what Tyme, Sunday was really hard on me.

 

To be honest, I think that was probably the closest I came to just giving up. I was actually plotting out a relapse.

 

But the thought that kept me going was that what I imagine that cigarette to be and what it actually is..... is completely different.

 

I wanted that "ahhh" feeling, you know what I mean. That comfort tool. Kinda like a binky to a baby.

 

But that ahhh feeling never happens. The first cigarettes are nasty and you can actually taste the poison in them. Then once you acclimate to tasting that vileness again..... your right back to where you started. Smoking. Damaging your lungs.

 

All of that for the illusion of this "wonderful" fix.

 

It's not what we think it is. It's not your friend. It's not your companion and it's definitely not worth your life. It's okay to miss it. But understand what you're missing. And fill that void with something healthy. I chose celery. And a water bottle. And deep breathing.

 

Oxygen CAN really be your new drug.

Of course your right...that first cig you smoke is awful..your eyes water..your throat is sore ,your lungs burn..

But it's also.the feeling of failure ..disappointment..

Knowing your right back at the beginning..killing yourself slowly..

I'm proud of you ...Rome is getting nearer day by day...xx

I'm good Tiff and Doreen. Yes I am craving but I'm fighting it. I keep reading....& reading....and reading. I'm not alone I know Tiff. It's damned hard but hard work pays off. We can DO this!

Well that's another day under your belt, they all add up.

 

You know it's really strange as you don't always know when it's happened, that you don't feel like you currently do, it just happens and a little while on you just think it's over, I'm done with that craving crap.

 

A day at a time...gets you a day nearer.

I'm doing well! Just taking one day at a time....keeping busy to help the cravings. I know anxiety is a stressor for me. So I'm hoping when we leave on Sat a Vacation will help with the cravings. Trying not to think about it. I may not be able to post while we are away. Internet is not always available but I will try. Expensive to buy at the Resorts but some offer it free. One day at a time....Hope the cravings go away soon.

I will try! I know you are all rooting for me & I thank you. While we are away if I don't post you will know Internet is not easily available....but I will try. Relaxation should help my trigger....anxiety. Thanks for your support, suggestions & caring

How exciting, where are you going? I personally love going on holiday/vacation. With all the money I've not wasted on smoking We've managed to take our family to Tenerife each year. You know what it was so lovely to be on holiday and be smoke free. I can understand it's still early days for you and there might be times were it feels uncomfortable. Trust me though, the one after this will feel like pure bliss. Reading that back it sounds as though I'm saying you will have a tricky time, I'm not, I'm just saying this one will be brill and the one after even better. Are you very excited? I can barely sleep with excitement when it's our turn.

 

Like you say keep busy and fill your time, it does help, as half the time I'm sure your mind searches for a what shall I do now? Moment..that most of the time we would fill with smoking. Be great because if you do get a bit restless you can go for a lovely walk, checking out the area and maybe stop for a delicious relaxing lunch...heaven.

Hi Sharon! We're going to the Mayan Riviera & Cancun area in Mexico! It has been a little hard to get excited just yet...I'm not myself with quitting smoking...but I"m sure once we get there I'll feel much better lol! Where is Tenerife? I have not heard of that probs because I am Canadian! Thanks so much Sharon. If I can get through these first months I know I'll be fine! I'm keeping busy packing. The cravings have been tough. I found it tough at first too, so I know where you're coming from. It does get a lot easier..I promise.

 

Oh I loved Mexico, we went once years ago. Stayed in a place called Playa Car...really beautiful. I'm sure once there you get a little more excited. Whatever you do though hang tough, if your lying around more than normal, then the temptation sets in find some water Zumba to do or another activity. Try not to sit about thinking about it. I was a good year quit before my first holiday. We have a beach hut and I would get a bit, you know, when down there. I just got up and mooches about and went for walks.

 

I, like you, knew once I got through the first few months I'd be fine...and was. So Keep doing what you're doing, each day adds up to those first few months.

 

Tenerife is in the Canary Islands, not too far from the African coast. It's a Spanish island although it's nearer Africa than Spain. A four and and a half four flight from the U.K. As a family we love it very much, like our second home really.

You leave tomorrow which is your One Week Anniversary !  Congratulations !

You will appreciate not needing to run outside of the airport between flights because you are craving a smoke.

Appreciate that you are not craving every twenty minutes or so !

Power through any craves and reward yourself with a Mango.

Enjoy your holiday, it is a beautiful part of the world and come back for more celebrations of your smoke free life !

I'm back! We had a lovely, relaxing time. I am still smoke free but not totally nicotine free. Like last time I have resorted to using Nicorette gum but usually only twice a day. I would have been a bitch on our vacation without it and it is keeping the insomnia under control. I know I should not use it but it worked for me last time and I just substituted regular gum once I got through the worst....I had severe insomnia last time. Powerful drugs...I had adverse reactions to drugs....not going there again. I sound defensive....sorry! Don't mean to be. At least I am not smoking. That I'm proud of....soon I will be nicotine free. Then I will be even more proud. Sorry!

I am glad you are still cigarette free,

sorry you started up the nicotine addiction again.

You need to remember you have total control over whether you are a b*tch or not.

You can blame it on addiction but, it will come back to your choice and your control over yourself.

 

Beating addiction encouraged me to be much more culpable and responsible to myself, for myself.

This is a great and encouraging part of the journey.

 

Glad you are back.  Hold to your resolve.

Thanks Sazerac. I know that everything you have said is totally right. I need to hold on to my resolve as you have pointed out. I seem to have to get into cold swimming pools the hard way....instead of just diving in! I guess I'm doing the same with the nicotine addiction. But I will not be using the gum for long. I hated to be a b--ch while on holidays with my hubby. At least at home I can do things to prevent the cravings more easily. I'm a non smoker now. Time to get over myself!!! And this addiction.

The important thing is,  you are not smoking.  You are embarking on a wonderful journey.

You will learn more about yourself as time goes on and especially so when you put this addiction to sleep.

Addiction takes over so much of a person.

I thought I couldn't be 'myself' without a cheroot between my lips.

I am happy to announce, I am myself and better after championing my freedom.

You will be too.  Don't loose sight of the prize.  The benefits will astound you.
