Hi all

I'm on day 2 of being a non-smoker  :D smoke free yaayyy!!!

Finding it tough at the moment on & off.......I feel lost that's what it is I feel like I've had a loss....grief, grieving? 20-30 fags a day for 30+ years which has made me unwell and I'm grieving because I miss it!!! Complete madness.

Trying to keep occupied, quite lucky where I live as there's lots of lovely local outdoor areas to walk, sight-see, or just sit and relax along the river. I can cope better if I'm out & about but struggle when I'm at home mostly :(

I have to do this, I CAN do this.

Congratulations Ruby !   Nicotine has almost left your body for ever.

Believe me, it gets better and it won't be very long before you are really enjoying your new freedom.

Educate yourself, commit to NOPE and you've got this licked.

You have the right attitude.  YOU CAN DO THIS !

Hi Ruby!

So happy to hear your decision to stop smoking!  Some days we will have tough moments, but stay strong!  They will pass.  It is crazy how we felt like those deadly smokes were a friend to go to and we do miss them at first, but I promise, each day we continue not to smoke, we get so much happier that they are gone!  I sure don't grieve their loss anymore!  That feeling passed quickly.

Well done ruby.

Your brain has to catch up..it's used to being fed a poison for all those years..20 to 30 times a day..

Be kind to yourself...don't forget the important treats..rewarding yourself is a great feeling...

You'll have plenty of extra money to do this..

Welcome Ruby.  The ups-and-downs are perfectly normal in those initial days of the quit.  Every craving passes and the quit just gets easier with every NOPE!  If you keep it simple and remember that the only rule for a successful quit is that you refrain from putting things in your mouth and lighting them on fire...you'll be golden.

I have to do this, I CAN do this.

Yes you can.  In fact, you already have.  Congratulations, you're a non-smoker now.

Day Three, Ruby !  Pretty much ALL the Nicotine has left your body.

Now you will be changing your patterns and facing life as a Free person.

You will need to remain vigilant and not be surprised or discouraged by strong urges to smoke,

your brain will be re-calibrating itself and you can assist in rewarding yourself and learning as much as you can about addiction.

Every day you will gather strength and resolve and your body begins a massive healing.  Congratulations.

Hi All....

Thanks so much for the support from all of you, really appreciate it.

I feel a lot more together today if that makes sense, I don't feel so on edge, anxious, my breathing I notice is a lot calmer. I treated myself to lunch in a different cafe this afternoon and even bought myself a new eyeshadow.

The best thing though is getting through a third day not smoking!!!!

Way to go Ruby!  You're right, Day 3 is a BIG deal.  From here on out, it's just a matter of rolling with it until the rolling stops  :D.  And you have to trust that it will stop.

Welcome and keep it up!

Hi Ruby.. Sorry I. Late to welcome you. I also noticed your post in the S.O.S. Section....WELL DONE! That is one of the many tools available to you here. There are many videos and posts to read to help occupy your mind and take your thoughts off smoking....all the while teaching you many things you may not have known about the pitfalls of nicotine addiction..(and tips on how to beat it)

I dont drop nearly as often as I used to, but still drop by as much as possible. I say this because I firmly believe that early in your quit, you should log in daily and spend some time reading and posting, it takes your mind off of your nicotine addiction, and I also post this as proof that as time goes by...YOUR QUIT WILL GET EASIER!! You won't believe it's possible that you will reach a point where smoking doesn't even enter your mind, but you have to believe me (us) that it WILL happen....you just have to get through the early days....Like any other (drug) addiction, your body and mind needs time to completely get that lifestyle out of your system....

And....with all that rambling done...

Pick out your seat, buckle up and enjoy the ride! We are glad to have you!

Hi Ruby,

Great to hear you are doing better and rewarding yourself.

Rewards are really important because nicotine overrode our pleasure and reward centers in our brain and we need to physically jump start them again.

This post may be helpful.

Day FOUR !  Congratulations.

Ruby has not posted for five days.  Hoping for the best but, Ruby...you can keep a quit.  Please check in.  There are plenty here who have a successful quit after years of relapses.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
