I can't believe how weak I have become. I mentioned this in another thread, but am posting here in hopes of motivating my self a bit. I'll change the title when I see inprovement.

When my kids were babies/toddlers, I was picking them up all the time and am surprised at how chasing them around, picking them up, etc actually kept me in better shape than I realized. When they got a few years older, I joined a gym (and quit smoking) and got in awesome shape! I wasn't a body builder, but my muscles were tone all around and I had great endurance.

I let my exercise slack, no I have no strength at all. Time to do something.

Came to the gym today and dos a barbell class. It's a great class to work on all over body strength. We do squats, lunges, bicep curls, ab work. I'm at practically zero weight and my legs

Are shaking after just a few sets.

Man, I've got some work to do, but, hey, I was there today and that's a start! :)

Also put on the weight I'd lost and all my muscles have gone too. I hear your pain! You did brilliantly going and starting. Beginning of a fresh start at healthy living, go you!!

Good work Petra.  The body adapts quickly when you start anew with strength training.  You'll start feeling the positive results rather quickly.

As for the shaky legs...It's part of the process.  Walking down a set of stairs, an otherwise mundane task, feels like a little adventure.

Actually going is often the most difficult part for me, so good for you! Your body will bounce back pretty quickly. As someone who used to weigh over 300 pounds and was severely out of shape, it didn't take much time for me to fall into a routine and for my body to react positively to working out. I remember the first time I did squats, I could barely stand because my legs were shaking so much, but now all is well. You will be amazed at how quickly your body adjusts.

Hit Barbell class yesterday.  Not sure if I'll make it in today, but at least I've had three days of good workouts.

Not making it everyday, but making progress.  Yesterday was Barbell class.  Today was walking the seating rows at Red Rock Amphitheater - our beautiful Colorado music venue on a beautiful morning!

That is a cool spot for some exercise.  I had never seen the view from the top of Red Rocks before.

The view is looking to the east (no mountains to the east).  The city\tall buildings is downtown Denver.  The smog is from dope, not pollution (lol - just kidding.... kinda).

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
