Mid-life crisis?.....got the Mustang...pics added!

I was completely suprised by my wife Friday night. We had gone out to see if we could put the weight back on that we lost doing a "30 day challenge"..... :P :D It's a long story, but I participated by default and lost 13 lbs and she lost 7 lbs.......so, since it ended the on 1st, we went out to a local Long Horn steak house and ordered all the stuff I was not allowed to eat for the past 30 days....lol.... Anyhow.... on the drive home , out of the blue, she suggested we go out and buy a new car....not any car, but a new Mustang !!...

Once I confirmed she as serious, and she was.... We made plans to car shop all day Saturday. My only "requirement" was that it be a GT... ( for those that don't know, that's the V8 version).. and all she is really wanting is black or dark grey with black wheels...and (unfortunately) an automatic transmission ..... Simple....right?...not really!

Most GT's are manual shift transmissions....(as they should be ;) ) and....it seems most that are automatic, are yellow!...not my thing!...followed by red and orange....those 3 colors are the last ones I would chose! The dealers we visited are reluctant to order anything this late in the production year because in about 6to8 weeks the '17 models will be rolling out and they want to sell whats already in stock....but.... a dealer found one that is exactly what Sherrie wanted... Along with the Gt package.....so, tomorrow I am going to look at it and quite possibly buy it...........unless my inner common sense kicks in and convinces me to wait for a new '17......but of course, they will be more expensive to begin with, and the dealer won't feel the need to negotiate a better price to get them off the lot like he does the '16s.....anyhow....if I can attach a pic, I will show what the one we may be getting will look like.

ok....I haven't mastered this iPad yet...I will post it from my PC.....

Anyhow....if this is case of midlife crisis...Let it be so! :) :D

these pics are not completely accurate...the one we would be getting would have "black chrome" emblems instead of "shiny" chrome...

Go - hammer him on price. Tell him its today or not at all...

He'll bite.

Why the heck not?

unfortunately, today is Sunday, so they are not open....but...I have already cleared my schedule to be there tomorrow.

Maybe a road trip to the Outer Banks will be in order.  Not a MLC car - this black beauty is a symbol of hard work and dedication paying a dividend.  I hope you land a good deal.

<edited to add  - come see me!  should only take a few days>

Awesome, but hold your guns on the stick...no real man will admit an auto even if it was faster shifting than a human could

Got it Joe?

nothing yet...the first one my dealer located was already sold when he checked ...so, he has an inquiry in with a different dealer for another one.....pretty much the same thing...and...

Sorry to say Bakon, what we will be getting is pretty much the "standard" GT...without too many added bells and whistles. The wife prefers cloth over leather seats in the summer, and since that is about the only time it will be driven, thats what she is getting. and because of cost, it was either more bells and whistles in a 4cyl (turbo) mustang..or the 6 cyl..., or a "standard" interior gt that includes the V8...The performance package is overkill....kinda. ...The one Im getting (i hope) has a 3:55 gear vs the 3:15 standard gear it includes the black accent packing which has

  • 19-inch Ebony Black-painted wheels
  • Black GT, 5.0 and Pony badges
  • Unique dark tail lamp lens accents
  • Black decklid spoiler

Mats are included, but not voice activated nav....no need for that. I mean seriously, how many people use that any more?...lol...if i need directions, I use google maps and it speak the directions (over the sync3)... My Fusion has Sync, and that is the biggest pain in the @ss to use..the salesman assures me that sync 3 is much more user friendly.

the bottom line is, in order to keep it in budget, and since Im not getting rid of anything, I couldn't go "all out". I will take a basic Gt over the loaded 4 or 6 any day!...and as far as the automatic goes...I dont have much choice...lol....she dont want to learn how to drive a manual, and to be honest, after back surgery last year...and another appointment at the Cleveland Clinic in July for basically the same thing, maybe I dont want to drive a manual either. :(

so...Hopefully in the next couple hrs I will know if he has located one. Ordering one really isn't an option, because it will take 4 to 6 weeks to get one, and  the new 17's will be rolling out in 8 weeks.

We pulled Sally out a week ago. Girl is ten and only 11k miles. Thought about a newer one for a minute then I look at my new 10 year old girl and say no. So I understand the basic over the loaded. She is loaded for an older girl but still not a 416 hp girl!!!

Then I think for 1/5 the price of new, 8k/40k, she could get a blower and be a 560 hp girl.

Then I think 8k on yours goes north of 650 hp!

Someone will say anything over 300 hp is a waste, until you drive 400 or 500 hp. Like boobs, never too much

I totally agree about the hp....the new coyote motor is rated at 435 hp, but not sure what gets to the ground..... I have an idea of getting it dyno'ed soon to give me a base because there are some things I plan to do....the first thing would be to upgrade to exhaust to headers and an "X" pipe...not sure about a muffler yet...I want a nice sound, but nothing that has an irritating "drone". It's funny you bring up the blower.... The first thing I did was look on ford racing and that as the thing that caught my eye...... I am sure a pass at Norwalk Raceway Park (I think it's called Summitt now) will be in order just to give me that base line too. ;)...one more thing....I haven't looked yet, but I am certain they have a shift kit for those 6 speed autos that will have to find its way in there.

I have done some looking at blowers and the Roush is king for now. Safe for internals too. There is bigger but at risk of hurting the stock insides.

I run a Roush off road exhaust. Cat back system. Didn't want a tuner so need to keep the cats and o2 sensors stock. Nice sound. We have done 100 miles as furthest trip so couldn't say there is any drone if on a long one. Hit the 143 mph cut off even without more mods. And she is only a 300 hp rated girl

Those last couple replies look like another language, I don't speak car lol...but all I can say that is a sweet car and looks really fun to drive, good choice and have fun Joe!!

Ive been busy the last few days....the dealer had a hard time finding the standard gt in black with an automatic...but Wed. he called to let me know he located one, and I took delivery of it yesterday!..the only thing it didnt have that we wanted was the black rims, but those are easy enough to come across, so I can add those later.

we drove around quite awhile in it yesterday, and all I can say is...WOW...435 horsepower feels awesome!!!

There ismore trunk space than i anticipated, but still not enough to fit the golf clubs and luggage for 3 for a week....not to mention that back seat is completely useless....lol...

Anyhow, I have it parked in the garage under the cover waiting our return next week end, and we are going to take the Fusion..

here is a couple pics I snapped with my phone in the drive way....
