Hi,

I am currently suffering from anxiety and depression and i think i should just quit smoking because it is taking a toll on my health.

i know this means more anxiety and more depression but i hope it will get better after three days. I have no option left. it is taking a toll on me.

I am 32 and been smoking for the past 15 years. im upto a pack a day right now. failed numerous quit attempts.

I dont have much to keep myself busy with and i live in the toughest environment possible.

Also i have become insecure about myself which messes with my mind when i quit smoking.that is like the biggest hurdle in my quit smoking process.

I am financially secure and well educated and extremely sharp . Its just that i am still insecure.Dont know why. i get into retrospective thinking a lot.I have a rare form of cystic acne which scars easily which messes me up too and plus i am greying prematurely. You might be thinking what a dumb thing to say.i think i have BDD.gotta ditch the mirrors, so you can imagine how hard this quit is gonna be. wish me luck. But i think if I quit smoking i will have the courage to fight everything and my anxiety levels will go way down.I am going to open up here in ways i havent done before.i think i need to express myself while quitting smoking.

hope to get some support through tough times.

Welcome!  I think that smoking adds to anxiety and depression. Really when you smoke, you are just relieving the withdraw from nicotine. One you quit, after awhile, these urges go away and you will not feel the urge, the anxiety to smoke. After you succeed at quitting you will be very proud of yourself!

May I suggest getting some exercise  and I personally meditate to help with anxiety.  There are a lot of videos on youtube that can help.  Try not to overthink the quit. Just think, Not One Puff Ever.  NOPE.   No matter what you need to do, do not put a cigarette in your mouth and light it on fire.

Welcome aboard.  Beacon already touched on the issue, but the idea of cigarettes calming anxiety is a myth.  All smoking does is temporarily relieve nicotine withdrawal.  When we smoked all we got for our efforts was a temporary reprieve from withdrawal, but all other underlying issues were not addressed by smoking.  Cigarettes offer you no positive benefits.

Quitting on the other hand offers a practically infinite number of benefits.  When you break the chains of smoking, your confidence will be improved.  There is a momentum started when we quit.  That momentum has the potential to lead you to wonderful new places in your life.

Here at the Quit Train you will find educational resources and great support anytime you need it.  Check back in often.

Hi BlueBus828,

Sometimes we are born with stuff that makes life difficult and seem unfair but remember their are lots of people out their in the world who are a lot worse off and make their life happy and complete by learning to except themselves for who they are and build on that!

Now for the smoking, this is not something you were born with, it happened by pear pressure or living with someone who smokes, or what it doesn't matter now because now your addicted. You might now be able to fix everything about yourself that you are not happy with but this you can!!! It will not be easy but nothing is anymore except giving up! You have to really want to quit smoking, I mean really want to because it will hard and the cravings will try to talk you in to smoking so show yourself how strong you really are! Make this you first step to self improvement and I'm am 1000% sure everything else will fall in to place for you! Take it from me and everyone else here that has quit, the confidence and pride you get is so worth it!

Read everything you can here and post often even if just playing the games or socializing. Everybody here is willing to help 24/7! There is even a place here for a SOS if you are feeling weak. Remember: Why would you want to stick something in your mouth and light it on fire!

and NOPE! NOPE! NOPE! (Not one puff EVER)

SO ...... You have picked your quit date and quit, its just that easy!

Best of luck to you!

Sometimes the 'live'  thing is a great balm.

I'll go and hang out there for a while.

C'mon in if you want to.

No pressure

but, let us know how you are, no matter what.

We are apt to worry.

So its 6 am and I am at my usual time when i go out to buy my cigarettes and smoke like a chimney. not today though. but its getting really hard to stay sane ....i am the 10hour mark and going crazy.

My case is a little different I dont get hungry, instead i eat less when trying to quit and

I start wretching like I need to get something out of my system.

I am actually going crazy right now.

Posted

and the bad memories of the previous quit keep coming back ........that it gets even worse

i am also not able to smoke due to smoking......

although i smoked about 20 a day.......

cant even make cohesive thoughts right now.

Blue, if I may be so bold......?

I think it's wonderful that you have jumped into a quit but you need to find your 'zen'.

Please, take some deep breaths. Practice some breathing exercises. Quitting smoking can be hard but it doesn't need to be an insane, driven, crazy overload of emotions 24 hours per day. I urge you to read, scroll through the newbie posts and generally do anything to take your mind off it.

Remember, you are choosing to quit smoking. Why are you quitting?

Smoking does nothing for you. So take it off the table. Change the subject for a little while and think of something else. Quitting does not physically hurt you. It isn't like heroin or alcohol. The physical symptoms are far far less in impact. When you have a crave, remind yourself that you are not smoking, then change the subject. Above all else, stay calm and hang in there. You can do this as have so so many before you

Well,

why am i quitting. to have better physical and emotional health. RIght now I am drained 24/7 without the ability to function properly.

So quitting smoking might help me understand what it actually feels like to be free.

Hi Bluebus , in a few weeks you will feel so free . Cigs control most aspects of your life . Hang on and enjoy the ride , don't hate the healing .

Hi blue...

Please spend as much time as you can reading stuff about this addiction...how it effects are bodies...

You are starving it from loads of chemicals ,it is used to getting on a regular daily amount...

Be gentle to yourself....

Also a good read is Allen Carr...The Easy Way to stop smoking....it has help millions....

Never doubt yourself...

You can do this.....you just need to want it bad enough...

Blue. What are you doing to help yourself? Here are a few things that may help.

Go for a walk

Drink small sips of fruit juice (quitting smoking effects your sugar levels)

Take a series of long deep breaths

Cut a straw and 'puff' on it

Get busy doing something

Read through the forum

Read Allan Carr

Educate yourself on nicotine addiction

SIMPLY DONT SMOKE.

We have all been there. 20-25 cigs a day is normal. There are many who smoked more and may who smoked less. Don't focus on the numbers and things. One of the most important elements of a successful quit is your attitude. You have to want to quit, you have to actively tell yourself the right things and adopt the right attitude. If you continue allowing thoughts of 'please, just one' then I am sad to say it will only be a matter of time before you smoke again.

I wish I could show you what I mean or that my words could be as clear as my intent. Basically, get busy living and stop thinking about it so much and it will instantly get a little easier for you. You're doing this. You are getting rid of the nicotine. Keep on keeping on
