I went to a Great Gatsby/Casino Night fundraiser on Saturday night.  Everyone dressed like the flappers and gangsters.  One of the extremely popular props were fake cigarettes that glowed when you sucked on them.  They were everywhere!  It did not make me want to smoke, but it was so strange to see dear friends with cigarettes in their mouths.  Needless to say, I would not touch one.  I guess I have no sense of humor when it comes to smoking!

I don't know what to make of this, but I still have a pack of these in my car, in the console slot where my actual cigarettes used to go.

They used to be called "candy cigarettes" and had red sugar "embers" on one end, but not anymore. I actually used them once or twice early in my quit in tense traffic situations or long drives where I'd been conditioned to smoke, and it worked for me. They're literally the worst possible "candy" - mostly corn starch and a little sugar, like a hard marshmallow, but at least they don't leave you craving more.

I'm probably doing something wrong by not hating them, and I apologize if anyone's triggered. But I'm "smoking" one right now, and I can't even remember what it was like to want a real one, and that's weirdly empowering.

If you're gonna walk around with a cigarette in your mouth to celebrate the 1920s, you might as well get loaded up on moonshine that has been filtered through an old car radiator as well.  Really commit to the whole prohibition era bit.

I remember pretending to smoke those little candy cigarettes.... When I was a kid...

I was a full blown smoker at 11....

You just give me a blast from the past..

I had the candy too as a kid, I can actually still remember what they tasted like, I liked the chewy ones though not the hard ones

Thought I looked so cool as a kid, my mum would shout at me I I pretended to smoke it, double standards eh?

I can totally see why this affected you Nancy, never smokers dont get it, to them it was fun, but to us it's no joke at all and we worked bloody hard to where we are today in our quits, where we that might be xx

I have been to a lot parties and clubs now where they have the turkish hookahs going. One time there were so many people smoking that I almost drowned on the vapors. Of course I did not try them even though I did hear  a faint whisper from the old Nicodemon telling me that it was ok.

I actually felt the same about a guy pretending to smoke during one of the game sessions at Dundracon. It was a Wild West game, but still. Of course, I was still craving back then?

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
