Interesting.  I guess the health-scare campaigns do work on some level.  That's in spite of the fact that when I was a smoker I actively avoided those commercials.  I would change the channel or if others were in the room I would make abrupt small talk when those ads came on.  "How 'bout this weather were having?"  "Who do you like in the game this weekend?"

I knew enough to know I didn't want to know more.

The health scare stuff worked for me in the end!  It got to a point that every time I smoked I thought about how I was killing myself. Another thing I think works is the ban on smoking every where indoors. I was so thankful when I first quit that I did not have to be around smokers every where.

That's exactly what I was like. Ignoring the adverts, closing my ears but secretly hating myself every time I put a cigarette in mouth. I just spent a week away with the family and it was wonderful not feeling like I needed to go outside all the time for a cig. Not spending my evening outside of the fun or in the outskirts because I couldn't stray far from the door. Lovely. Now if I could just shift the extra lbs..... (And the extra extra ones I had before I quit!)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
