I've been smoking a pack a day for about 7 years. I did quit before for a few months but it didn't last. This time I've been getting into running and lifting. I get obsessed with things fast and can't stop looking at workout routines and trying to plan when I'm going to work out. My son is 5 and hates that I smoke, I feel like a failure when I go out for a smoke and he knows that's what I'm doing. I smoked last night and woke up this mourning and realized they were gone and I needed to roll more so I thought I should just quit. There are so many positives to quit. It's going to be rugged though all 4 adults in my house smoke and everyone at my work. I'm just trying to focus on nutrition and working out, it kind of takes my mind off it. I'm just so sick of it. I got to work tonight and usually I smoke about 10 cigarettes so it's going to be a wild ride. Last time I quit for a while and was really angry alot. All I can think is just "come on dude, don't cave, it's for the better." For the past hour I've downloaded and deleted just about every smoking app then found this place. I figure if I just get it all out with others who know how it is, it might help me especially during this time. Thanks everyone!

Good choice, coming here. Do not try, just do it and you succeed. Sorry bit of a crappy cold (thanks KarenLou for passing it thru :P ) and very tired that still happens after a year on your ticker: colds, the flu, but you will notice slightly it improves, cold don't last that long after a while etc.

Go go go, and rock your world and blieve in yourself :) you can do this. Be proud, make others jealous you quit.... run your #ss off and lift away ;) keep those hands busy and WELCOME

Thanks alot everyone for the quik response. I've got to say it is kind of comforting knowing I'm not the only one. This forum is great I have just been reading through a lot of posts that I can relate with. I did not plan on quitting today at all this is all pretty surreal.

Thanks again

Welcome, AC!  You just have to make up your mind to Not One Puff Ever.  Many of us take the daily pledge as a reminder, that we will not smoke, just for that day.  Quitting is a physical and emotional roller coaster, but it will not kill you.  Smoking kills, as even your 5 year old realizes.  Feel free to vent here at any time...we have all been where you are, now.

I promise the temporary discomfort will be so worth it in the long run.

I think my son was 5 when he first asked me to quit smoking. He's 11 now. I quit shortly before his birthday, and after a week I finally told him I quit. I can't believe it took me so long to do this. Hang in there.

Agree with Nancy-- NOPE daily, stick with it evenif the apocalypse happens and no excuse can bring you back to being an addictive, active smoker-- it's all one puff away

Welcome to the Quittrain angry!  Quitting smoking will be the best thing you ever do for yourself and your family.  Sounds like you have a good plan to distract yourself with working out which will be really helpful.  I was really emotional when I quit and it took a while for my emotions to settle down, but they did and your will too.   It takes time to get used to your new normal but you will adjust and eventually you'll wonder why you didn't quit sooner!

Great to have you here.  Let us know what we can do to help.

Welcome to the QT.

Post and talk when you need us. Quitting around smokers can actually be helpful in a way. Hearing the cough and seeing the catch can remind you straight away that there are repurcussions to smoking and none of them are good news.

Plus what a fantastic example you're showing your son!

Welcome.   So glad you're here.

Remember, when (or if...) the angry feelings show up.... they pass.

NOTHING is worth sticking another cigarette in your mouth and setting fire to it.

YOU ARE NOW FREE.

I am learning to just keep my mouth closed, smile and ask myself,  "Will this matter to me tomorrow?"   before I add any response or reaction.   Also, just nodding a  hello to the nicodemon..... acknowledge the addiction is pulling me and breathe, NOPE,  breathe again, again, again.

You found a place with people who are supportive.  Educate yourself, plan to stay quit, NOPE  - one second at a time if needed, and get on with the life YOU WANT.... FREEDOM and showing your son what healthy living and honoring your self & body looks like.

You got this.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
