I worry now alot about the tar in my lungs from smoking for so many years. When I quit I coughed (and not much) for only the first two days, that was it. Anyone else cough this tiny amount with their quit?

I did not cough at all. I had other symptoms such as bleeding gums and dizziness.  I don't thinking coughing or not coughing after quitting is a sign?

I didnt have a cough either...after 52 years of smoking...

But the immediate relief I had in my ankles was amazing..all bodies are different...

Nothing to worry about...x

I didn't cough either. Don't worry Karen. Your body is starting to heal itself. It knows what it needs to do. All you have to do is keep going x

Yeah in all my quits I've never had a cough but the longest I've gone as a smoker is about two years before stopping for several months. My husband had a bit of coughing after his last quit - and he had been smoking for a 20 years or so - It sounds like it may vary a bit from individual to individual.

I never had a cough at all.  I know some do and an expected I would as well but NOPE!

Sunny is right, your body knows what it needs to do to heal.  :)

I don't remember coughing up some gunk two times in one day, very small amounts but that was at least two months after I quit, if I remember correctly.  I guess I had knocked out enough cilia that it took that long for them to regenerate/start working again.  I remember hoping that I would be coughing up massive amounts of gunk but it wasn't hardly anything.  Some people cough up a ton of crap while others only cough up a little or none.

I would be more concerned if you had a cough that hung around for a long time.  ;)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
