On day 4

HI everyone - 

 

So I am officially on day 4 - in the past day 4 and 5 are the hardest for me. Once I can get over day 5, I become significantly stronger in my resolve to quit. For me, one of these two days is a likely failure point. I am going to be sticking close to the forums over the next two days - just reading whenever I feel weak! I think I should do OK considering when these days are hitting - (1) i'll be working most of the day. The weekend is harder because my Hubby is still smoking and the smell feels like it is all around me. Cigarettes are also present and accessible! (2) for my marathon training, I run on both Monday and Tuesday - so I have some workouts to look forward to in the evening.

 

I am going to start posting motivation boosters around the house - sayings that help me stay strong! Does any have any good ones that have helped with their quit? 

 

Thank you all for all your support this far! It feels so much easier to get through this with you all on my side. :)

hi morgan, try not to over think these next two days or you just might talk yourself into making it harder on yourself,

 

its good you are keeping busy, make sure you treat yourself to something nice

What got me through the early days....my trusty I pod...

I sang I danced... Both terribly...but I didn't care...

Smoking is not on the table ...no matter what...my junkie brain seemed to understand this...

Post nope every where

I also agree...the treats are very important... Reward yourself..x

You're doing great Morgan. Have you posted in this amazing thread? I recommend that you do because it has saved quite a few quits. Do whatever you need to do to save your quit during this time. Whenever times got rough for me in the early days I would cover my face with a pillow and scream. Yep, you look like a lunatic, but it helps. Treat yourself to all of our favorite snacks while you are going through rough patches. And of course we have games and threads here to keep you occupied. The chicks and sticks thread has saved my quit many times. ;)

You are doing great...just make up your mind that there is absolutely no scenario or circumstance that would ever cause you to light a cigarette.  It is okay to do anything that helps....except smoke!

Maybe not healthy but cherry tootsie pops work great for me! They last longer than a stupid craving, that's for sure! Also I cut plastic coffee stirrers in half and chew the crap out of them. Just think, you'll run a whole lot better training for that marathon with better lung capacity by NOT smoking. Running and smoking just don't go together!

"breathe and again, and again"  more a coping than motivation.  I have recently posted my reasons for quitting on the walls and stop to read them and breathe as I go form room to room doing things.

 

When is your marathon?

My marathon is in June, so I should be pretty well recovered. I have a half marathon the weekend after next though. I'll tell you I have done A LOT of running and triathlon training while being a smoker... but until I recently relapsed... This training has been significantly easier without the "monkey on my back"

It is only 9am here only been up for 3 hours - but surprisingly I am feeling really strong today. Not really craving at all! Hope I can just keep myself busy and the rest of the day will be just as breezy! :) Thank you for asking!

Remember that when you hit a spot that you fought to get where you are and that a crave is only temporary. It will pass. We are here for you when you need us!!
