I don't agree with this but.......

Hawaii Begins 2016 as the first state in the nation to raise the legal smoking age to 21. The law applies not only to the sale or use of tobacco products — including cigarettes and cigars — but also to smoking electronic cigarettes, popularly known as vaping.

I read about this.  I hope it helps some people never to pick up the devil nicotine.  Even though I am quit, I know there may always be the whisper of desire at certain times to smoke. How I wish I never would have smoked that first one.  Or at the very least, I wish I would have quit when I was in my 20's.

Does it work really though? In the UK I see children smoking who are clearly under the age of 18. They always find a way sadly, I know I did at 13 years old.

Contervertial as it may sound I hope that smoking looks old school, to the young, and for those who will try, because sadly they will, I hope they decide to vape instead. At least then they will find it a lot easier to quit that than cigs. Or course I would love the young coming through to not have their heads turned by anything...goes without saying, but I'm just being realistic, many will.

It makes sense to me.  As others have said, not sure how effective it will be, but worth a try!  Just like kids get alcohol...kids will probably get cigs or ecigs if they want them badly enough, but maybe it will deter some.  We can only hope!

Here is another article.  I must agree that if people are old enough to serve in our Armed Forces, they are old enough to make their own decisions about smoking and drinking.  Some definite junkie thinking in the article, though!

I'm no fan of the Government dictating what I can or can't do.   Agree with Nancy also that if you can be sent into war as a bullet stopper then you should be able to make your own decisions regarding smoking.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
