This is not a New Year's resolution. I quit 6 days ago, the day after Christmas. Call me a rebel.

I'm taking Chantix. It helps. I still get cravings, but they are manageable. Mostly I feel like I'm forgetting something and it nags at me. Maybe I am forgetting something. Wait. What was I saying?

I love the vivid dreams. Not scary, but like watching bizarre television shows starring myself and people I know. Last night I dreamt my two sons and I were meeting for breakfast. They were acting strange and wearing weird hats. I asked them what was wrong and they told me they had done a diner dash the week before and they were worried they'd be recognized. I was angry. There are hundreds of restaurants on the Las Vegas strip we could have met, (yes, inexplicably, we were in Las Vegas). I left in a huff and hurried back to my hotel. When I called them from the hotel, my oldest son was being hassled by the police on the street for playing a trumpet. (No, he doesn't play trumpet). It was at this point that I woke up.

Happy new year all.

Welcome to the quit train Katoo and congrats on your decision to quit smoking!    I took chantix as well and it helped a lot.  You are nearly through what is referred to,by many, as "hell week" & well on your way to a beautiful smoke free life.  What worked for me was to decide in the beginning that no matter what came my way, I would not smoke.  They'll be difficult days as there always are in life.  It's at those times your brain will play tricks on you by telling you that smoking will make you feel better.  It won't of course and that is just the addiction talking.  Be prepared for those days and you will do well.

If you are having a weak moment and fear relapse post in the SOS forum and the peeps here will help you through it.

So happy to have you here!  Please let us know what we can do to help.

Welcome, Katoo!  I quit using Wellbutrin XL and let me tell you the dreams, whew, they were something else.  It was like watching a movie in full color and being present in dreams like never before.  The medication did precisely what I had hoped it would do and while on it, smoking made me want to vomit.  Still, the addict in me kept trying to smoke hoping the nausea would go away if I just kept trying to smoke.  Didn't work.  The Wellbutrin wouldn't budge.

Please stay as active as you can on the boards and keep reading and learning about this addiction because knowledge is really the most successful way to beat it...for good!

If dreams get to be too much then try cold turkey. You might be suprized how easy it is with right frame of mind. NOPE.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
