Today I am happy to say I am a quitter.

I started smoking cigarettes because of stress and to have a social life. It seemed like all my friends would step out to have a cigarette and I would be left inside by myself feeling like I was missing out.

I wanted to see if they were really as addictive as others said they were.  (I know that was stupid)

I started smoking Winter of 2013.

Here is where my story gets interesting. I stuck with Organic tobacco. I would roll my own or stick with Native Spirits.

I gave birth to a very surprise baby in the Spring. Thank God she is healthy.  (I was told I could never have kids and pregnancy tests are not always accurate)

I wanted to give it up right away. The stress of being a first time unexpected Mom was a lot. I was doing 9 months of work within a couple of days. Several months later and I have had enough.

I do not want to look my child in the eyes when she is ten and tell her Mommy has cancer.  I do not want to have to step outside from sports events just to have a quick cigarette.  I realized last week these cigarettes are owning me.  How am I in control of my stress if I smoke to relax?

My teeth started having some problems this year. I was reading in a free e-book about smoking that it causes your body to lose massive amounts of vitamin C every day! What the hell was I doing?

I may pay with some mouth issues but I do not want to pay with mouth cancer or lung cancer!  I do not want my child to have to bury me over ciggs!

To quit I am drinking lots of peppermint/ginger tea with lots of water. I have two cigarettes left over from my pack that are just sitting out in the open. Almost like I dare you......I have not touched them today.  This is only day one and I have a headache and my stomach has felt a little irritated.  I feel like I could sleep the entire day through.

I have tried to quit before but as I said I failed. Why is this time different? Well its almost a new year and I am sick of my own crap.

I really feel like this forum will help push me through the difficult moments. I also cannot wait to help others as my journey progresses!

Welcome!  Life as a non smoker is so much easier, especially when you have kids.  It's not as hard as you think it is either.  Commit to never taking another puff (NOPE) no matter what and freedom will be yours.  Do yourself a favor though, get rid of the cigarettes you have.  You're tempting fate and you are likely to not win that battle. Weak moments happen to us all.  Make it a little more difficult to relapse by not having them handy.

This journey is so worth the effort.  Promise you that!!

Ditch the smokes... commit completely.  No safety net.

Quitting is not impossible.. it just take effort.  Keep yourself accountable to your shorty.

Let us know how you are doing and how we can help.

Keep on keepin on.

As said above... Get rid of your stash...

The first few days are the toughest, no reason to set yourself up for failure by having a cigarette handy in case you decide it's more than you can handle at that particular moment... You WILL try to convince yourself that "just 1" won't hurt anything...and you will be wrong....

I am quit for 2 years and fully believe I am 1cigarette away from a pack a day habit.

So now then, set yourself up for success ...throw away any cigarettes you have and COMPLETELY quit today!

with all that said, welcome to the quit train, we are here to help in any way we can. Read as much as possible. Educate yourself.. That's the key to beating this addiction.

You are in for a great journey!  Every day quitting will get be easier and easier.  You may have a few struggles, but nothing worth having is completely struggle free.

I agree with the others, soak those 2 cigs in water.  All they will do is tempt you.  No reason to have them hanging around.  If you get an urge to smoke, post or read or something that uses your hands.  I used to eat peanuts from the shell or chips and salsa.

Also, read read and read here on the QuitTrain and all over.  Many of us have found the book The Easy Way to Quit Smoking a great resource.

For fun, check out the Games thread.  A great way to get to know us and for us to get to know you!

Welcome!!!! :)

Hello nice to meet you. I carried a pouch of tobacco with me, wherever I went for about two or three week's, for me, it was like a safety blanket. I do know other people that quit that way, but it isn't textbook. If you have discipline and are really determined to quit, that way can work, but be careful! Having cigarettes so easily accessible Can be very dangerous.

It can be as dangerous as drinking alcohol too early on in your quit, even though some people do seem to deal with this trigger easier than others.

I hope you are still going strong? Remember to post if you need anything's.

Wow, that must have been a torrid time for you, as if a newborn isn't enough of a shock. I think you're amazing, to adjust that quickly and make this beautiful choice. It's not just burying mama, statistically, YOUR CHILD is more likely to smoke if you do. That feels really shocking to realize I think.

Try and get some distractions in place for when you're not quite sure what to do with yourself. it's more mental than physical to be honest so get some jobs or reading material or whatever lined up to take your mind off of things. exercise is a big win too. xx

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
