Was in town at the weekend, and saw a young family; a couple (maybe mid-to-late twenties), with a little boy, who was maybe 4 or 5?

He was smoking what looked like an ecig, and he seemed to have divised some sort of game where he would take a drag and then proceeded to blow as much smoke/vapour into the face of his kid as was humanly possible... Am I the only one to think WTF?!

Obviously I couldn't tell you if there was any nicotine or not (but let's face it, there probably was), but what chance has that poor kid got - nicotine dependency at 4 years old? I wanted to go over and punch this guy, hard. Tasha told me best not to.

I know when we were smokers, we could think of examples of doing stupid selfish stuff, but this guy took the biscuit. I hope he gets caught by social services... Or someone who's wife doesn't stop him doing something about it...

/rant over!

When mine were little in the seventy,s...we were ignorant of the dangers of smoking...

But still had the sense to blow the smoke the other way...

With all the information smokers have today...he should have known better...

When I'm out and see mums or dads dragging and swearing at the tiny tots..cigs in hand...I get infuriated...

Your little one ....will never have to endure a stinky swearing selfish parent....

The other week I was on a train and some guy got on puffing away what can only be described as a clarinet sized vapour with a tank on it the size of your fist when he exhaled you couldn't see anyone for a few seconds, a lady had her dog next to us and the dog kept trying to get under the seat when he saw or sensed the vapour the train was rammed and small babies and children were there but he was with a gang of drunk blokes football/halloween so none of us said anything and the conducter mysteriously stayed away, wanting to punch in the face I get!

Today I passed a white van where the passenger had a babe in arms in the front seat, some people are just thick as a plank and selfish with it!!

I will never forget watching football at a bar on a Sunday....and seeing a young couple bring in a tiny baby and put it in its seat on the table between them...and smoke their brains out.  I was still smoking and could not believe it...

:(  People are stupid.  People used to smoke in their homes and cars around kids/babies - windows all rolled up - without a second thought.

Blowing vape or actual smoke into anyone's face is moronic - especially kids.

Morons smoke pot around their kids too - and blow smoke in the kids faces to help them sleep. I saw that a few times in my youth. When I was younger and more naive (also shy and insecure), I looked on in amazement.  :(

When I was older and smarter, I spoke up.

But it's been a long time since I've seen any of that in person.

my parents smoked around us all the time...and my mom used the excuse that they didn't know any better back then.  I call bullshit because I remember learning in school how bad smoking was for you and crying at 8 thinking my parents were going to die.

Young parents especially...just do dumb things sometimes.

1.  They are young and ignorant...(not an excuse but people do what they do the best they can with what they know at the time)

2.  Those kids came easy to them...got knocked up at a young age...and just simply don't appreciate the gift that the babies are

3.  They are just uneducated and believe what they believe...that if they smoke with a window open in the care then the baby doesn't inhale the smoke

I say this because I sometimes did #3 with my kids in the car on long trips....I would open all the windows and hang my arm out the window so, no smoke is possibly going on/in my child...right???  WRONG!  I found that out the hard way when my son was told he smelled like smoke when he was 11...and I never ever ever smoked again in his presence.

Also, when my kids were little....we didn't smoke in the house in general but on Friday nights people would come over to play cards...and I thought as long as the kids were in bed with the door shut.....it was ok.  Wrong again!

But when you are addicted...you take risks, you justify...you fool yourself....anything...ANYTHING to get that fix.  Even put blinders on

so what I am saying is....even the best of us.........did stupid things at one time or another  :)  didn't mean we didn't love our kids.

When I gave birth to mine...the ash tray was next to your bed.....all the doctors and nurses smoked...on the wards...

We were all ignorant of the dangers....

I was the type of mum...where I wouldn't let the wind blow on them....very protective....

Yet I never thought my smoking was harming them very time I put one up...

Of course now I have been educated.... This would have never happened.....

It's just a shame when you see it still happens....

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
