Welcome aboard... I'm glad to see you took the plunge !! I noticed you joined a couple months ago.. I assume that you have been reading up on this addiction. At least I hope you have been... :) . Education is the key to success... Read everything here and get involved with some of the conversations here, and your chances of success are improved... Feel free to ask questions... There are no cut and dried methods to quitting..everyone's quit is different, but they all start with the same foundations...desire to quit, and Not One Puff Ever (NOPE)... You will hear many times that "it gets easier" ... Remember..you heard it here first...lol..but it DOES get easier...just take it day by day... Good luck and happy to "meet" you

In my previous quits i have always managed to get through the first week or so - i can convince myself it will end. It staying quit a few months down the road that is my problem when i let my guard down

That amount would be much higher givin the constant increase in the " sin tax"... I quit about 20 months ago.. ( I had to count it up...lol...).. I've spent my savings on various things..the most expensive was a trip to Florida ...I've retired recently so plan to spend time and money on my old cars...('65 Mustang fastback and '51 Ford Tudor Custom).. It's much more enjoyable to "play" without spending time and money on cigarettes..not constantly stopping to light up.

Even 20 months in, I constantly remind myself to keep my guard up...I'm 1 puff away from a pack-a-day habit.. (Stealing that quote from someone...)

My experience is if I tried to quit, it was too big ... but not smoke today...I could do that, we can all do that. Then I'd wake the next day and think, not smoke today, I can do that. I did that until I could think about forever, forever is too long for anything I think. After all, we are only promised today anyway right!!  Top tip for you :)

 

Re your quit great work. Got any nice treats lined up for milestones, or small treats each day to keep you rewarded for an excellent accomplishment?

Welcome SDH!  This is a great place to support your quit.  Stick around, take advantage of all the great articles/videos/advice and you'll do well.

I manage it the same way.  When I think about forever, it's turns on anxiety buttons so I just stick with today and it works better.

and Welcome Super!!!  and as Marti says, "one day at a time" is all we HAVE... yesterday has gone, never to return or re-live/change whatever... NO ONE has tomorrow until it's here... we only have today! right NOW in fact! Not even tonight.. we have NO IDEA how we'll feel "later".... all we DO know is "NOPE"... Not One Puff, Ever! ;)

 

You've already "done" it by joining these AMAZING people's ride!! xox

Welcome, superduperhooper!  Glad you found us and even more glad that you've decided to quit smoking...for good.  How long did you smoke for?

 

Not sure what all you've learned about this addiction, but knowledge is how we beat it, not by strong-arming it.  A good place to start learning is to watch the videos in Joel's Library, specifically videos addressing issues early in your quit.

 

Please know that in order to succeed, we must keep our quits separate from misgivings, celebrations, hurts and the many other excuses that we used to use to perpetuate the lie that smoking calms us, helps us cope with stress and was even some kind of sick reward to celebrate some positive event or accomplishment.

 

As you go forward, please stay active within the community and never, ever get complacent in your quit because the day you do could be the day junkie thinking starts to enter your mind and before you know it, the cigarettes have found the open door and we all know too well what happens from there.

 

Welcome aboard and let us know each day (or as often as possible) how your quit is going and if you're having any issues.  Above all, remember to take the "The Daily NOPE! Pledge" each day. (not one puff, ever).  :)
