Hello friends,

Just wanted to pop in and say hi! And let you all know how I'm doing since I've been off the boards for a few days. :) so it's been just over a week since I've had nicotine in my body. I don't think I physically crave it anymore but my brain makes me think I do. It's actually not too often and I just blow it off with a "yea right..I miss injecting toxins into my body 20 times a day??" Uh no. I don't. I would like to come to a point where I don't think about it every damn day though. I want to think wow!! I haven't thought about smoking in a whole week!! Lol. Overall, feel good and strong and know that I NEVER want to smoke again. NOPE!

You sound good and strong.  Stay on your toes... it will try to bring you back.  But sooner or later you will realize that you have not thought about smoking for a whole day.  Then later you will realize that it has been a week...etc etc etc.

Congrats...keep on keepin on.

Excellent Nixter :d

You sound like you know where you are at, and in control of things.  Now you just need to carry on carrying on, and don't let anything catch you by surprise ;)

I can testify that after a while (and it shouldn't be too long), that you will go for vast amounts of time (hours, days, weeks) without even thinking about cigarettes.  Presently I can go for many weeks at a time without a single thought popping in my head, and even then, the thought can simply be swatted away like the inconvenience that it is :p

Keep going, you are doing so great!

sound great Nixter...right where you need to be.  I remember feeling that way....wanting it to just go away.  In time...it does..but remember, you smoked a lot of years so its not going away overnight...but slowly...day by day...it does get weaker.  Each time you face challenges it loses strength.

I did the same as you...had these little conversations in my head like that....it really helps!

Having a place like this to come to makes all the difference too...whether you use it daily or not...good place to have.

Well done!

Well done....you sound in a good place....

Don't forget the little treats...it's just a pat on the back to yourself....

One day at a time.....good work.....

Fabulous post, you sound really upbeat and positive.

Keeping busy but staying alert is the best. It just takes a bit of time to unravel smoking from our associations with things we do is all and this can get easier or harder depending on your mind set. Staying focused with an end game will help and it sounds like you are doing that. be patient with yourself though, all good things take time to achieve.

Which reminds me, make sure you're treating yourself like Doreen said. It's really valuable to treat ourselves, it's just a version of self care which as smokers, we didn't do. It can be cheap, scented candles, magazine or pricer..new exersize class, holiday payments?  Whatever is "your thing", it helps to have some forward facing treats. I also like treats you can actually see, to remind yourself how much it's nice to have some spare pennies for nice things (new bedding or something?).

You are doing great! I am not far along and I don't think of smoking very often. It has surprised me that it happened so soon. Keep at it and before you know it you will not think about it as often.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
