Day Three is winding up. Yep I got through the first of the icky threes. Been sleeping most of the day. Between the heat and (I guess) the Quitter's Flu I've just been listless all day.

 

I read the post about how you don't just get off the Quit Train and it was very powerful. It was like that for me after I relapsed...I would hear the whistle of the train in the distance. I saw familiar faces whiz by but when they put their hand out to help me I couldn't grab it because that would mean I'd have to drop the cigarette in my hand.

 

I had it. I was doing so well. Something in me cries for failure. As I said before I am a recovering addict. Drugs and alcohol call my name as much as cigarettes but not as loudly. I was bested by the 'Just One Monster'.  It takes me down every time. Countless times, from countless quits. Even now, even as this quit has been easy so far....I find myself alone in the house, everyone is out, and I think about how easy it would be to go outside and smoke "just one". I have proven to myself over and over again that there is no such thing. I want to smoke even though I don't want to smoke.

 

I am going to go take a cool shower and brush my teeth then smell my hair. That usually helps some!

 

Its good to be back. I'm sorry I left you.

Welcome back Michelle, really pleased to see you and that your on day 3 already.

 

Sorry you're feeling listless. Are you sipping fruit juice to combat the blood sugars jumping around?

Welcome back Michelle - sorry you are feeling bad but remember those bad feelings will pass and soon you will see the wonderful benefits ... So hang in there and remember sip juice and water, deep breaths and stay strong - we are here for you if you need it xx

Welcome back girl!!! Yes it's easy to hide when you smoke and leave the QT but really you're hiding from yourself.
Kick some cig ass and stick with NOPE; and do not run off

Hi Michelle, congrats on day 3, that is a great start - the hardest days are the first 3!

 

I know what you mean about it being easy to just pop outside for a quick 'just one', but there a a whole lot of stupid things we can all do that are 'easy' and bad for us at the same time. Sometimes we should do the things that are not the 'easy' option. That's what we are here for; to support you through those tough decisions. And each time it will get easier to resist making a bad decision ;)

welcome back Michelle.....some people quit the first time....some quit after a few times...we call that the "scenic route"

unfortunately...some never come back so, Congrats to you for recognizing the life or death situation that nicotine addiction really is....smart move to come back.

 

 

It always helped me to remember...I might want that one cigarette..but if I have it, then what? Will I be satisfied? of course not...that one puff will set off a chain reaction and that would be smoking full time again. In addition...the illusion that "one puff" will give you relief or pleasure is just that...an illusion...all it will do is make you feel like shit...emotionally and physically.

 

Stay close...watch the video's...read posts...stick around...pledge NOPE

Change how you think.... change who you are.  

 

You have that power...and only you have that power.

 

Is this something you want...really?  Then get it.  It is attainable....it is not impossible.

 

If you do not want to smoke anymore...then make smoking something that is no longer an option.  The first 72 hours is physical...the rest is mental.

Hi Michelle.

 

I am also a recovering addict so it's nice to find someone to relate to. I just joined this forum tonight because i felt really alone in my journey to quit. Not getting much support from people in my actual life. I know nicotine is one of the most addictive substances but i also think we can use our recovery as a tool. I mean, we have been through so much in achieving sobriety and that is proof that we can handle big challenges such as this.

Welcome back Michelle. If this was easy people would quit with no problem at all. It's not easy. As Markus once said to me "you may bend but you don't break". I remember those words when the temptations are nasty. Smobriety. You can do this too!
