Hey guys. I'm 20, and started smoking when I was around 13. Pack a day habit began when I was around 17. I've never really tried to quit smoking until the last couple months. I read Allen Carr's book about two months back, and really felt like I could do it. Made it about a day and a half, until I convinced myself I would end up smoking because a smoker friend was coming up for the weekend. I tried to quit a couple times since, but hardly ever made it past a day. I struggle with getting out of my head about it. I end up convincing myself that I don't really want to quit, that I'll feel so much better after I smoke and things can go back to normal. But my "normal" isn't healthy or enabling any sort of growth.

Just had my last cigarette about an hour ago. I'm optimistic this time. I've been trying to reflect on why I smoke (besides the nicotine addiction, of course). Found out most of my triggers and where the stem from. Super excited to meet some people who are going through the same thing, or have already been there. Please send me your wisdom! c:

Welcome Sag. Such a great decision that you are making. Read and post as much as you can here on the board. Get yourself a "toolbox" (snacks, juice, gum) together of things that will help and comfort you through any cravings that you will have.

Delighted to see this great choice.

The wisdom if you want it, is you now do anything you like, within reason, except put something in your mouth and set fire to it. This gives you a whole lot of options on things you can do :)  It also brings a bit of the how crazy is it to smoke, to put chemicals and a drug in some paper and inhale it into your body after setting it on fire, really near your face!!

It's a wonderful thing you are doing for your future and the future of everyone who does or will know you.

Read up on the addiction. Get some distractions ready, sometimes the best way is to go do something so you think of something else and the thought of smoking fizzles away. Don't be scared is my other tip. A thought is simply a thought...give it 5 mins and you can be thinking of something totally different and that's a fact. Those thoughts really won't hurt or harm you, just some mental discomfort but smoking really truly can do serious damage.

Great to welcome you. xx

Good for you! I wish I would have stopped at your age. I didn't and waited another 30 years! You are going to feel better and smoking really hurts a person's looks, bad skin, wrinkles, bad teeth, smelly, scratchy voice. No need for all of that, right? Keep posting

Hello, nice to meet you. What a great decision you have made... We have all been where you are right now, and we are all now non-smokers because we made that decision amd stuck to it.

Try to take it a day at a time, and not get overwhelmed. You will quickly realise how much better your life can be when you are no longer a slave to nicotine.

You can do this! :)

I'm 32 now.

Wish I'd quit 10 years ago!

You have such a beautiful face - don't screw it up with ciggs.

Quitting now will make you more confident - - you will stand taller and hug harder.

It's worth it.
