I am going to QUIT it forever from now!!

Sinha

Recommended Posts

Hi this is Sinha, I am around 30 and smoking for around 16 years now. I smoke 20 cigarettes per day. Like many of you I tried and failed several times. But this time I am gonna QUIT it forever. This time I am bagging the positive feelings for fighting the urges and the Hell Weeks.

Please stay beside me and give me the tips that worked for you, encourage me and get encouraged with me.

I am making a plan and will share here so that you can get benefited or benefit me by your advice to make it more robust.

Regards,

Sinha

You don't need an overly intricate plan - all you need to remember is "NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF."  That's the gist of it.  If you never take another puff you will be successful and you will inspire others.

Hi Sinha,

I'm excited for you and your journey, it's an amazing feeling never wanting or needing to smoke, truly.

I do suggest some distraction techniques, I just found it easier that way. Whatever is your thing really, gum, bottle of water to sip, sweets/candy, cut a straw in half to suck air through etc. I had lots of things to combat the worst times and due to many failed quits prior to this one, planning what to do instead helped me really commit.

Write a list of all the reasons you don't want to be a smoker, carry it with you. Sometimes a quick reminder can get you past a trigger or a thought.

Don't be so afraid :)  It's a big thing seemingly, but in reality, it's not. It's as easy or as hard as YOU decide to make it.

Won't go on too much but happy to share tips anytime.

And welcome :)  Great choice you're making!!

Yeah... I will never take another puff and will have rewards for myself.... any idea for rewards? I am thinking of a jar and everyday i will deposit the money I spend daily for cigarette and 50% of it as a incentive so that I can spend it the way I want. :)

Hi Sinha and welcome :-). Marti gave you great suggestions so I will just reinforce that distraction is key ... Plan these up front so you have a fallback if craves hit ! I know exercise was key for me and I also played lots of the games here, read up ( education was so important for me), stock up on juice and snacks. Stay close to the board - there is great support here :-)

Welcome and I think a rewards jar would be beneficial along with the other tips that were given.......saving all that money that went up in smoke before than you can buy yourself something nice  or go an vacation.......remember drinks lots of juice and breathe deep through a craving you will get through it

Hi today I am joining gym as a preventive measure against quitting smoking.... I am also going for juice and stopping chocolate, tea, coffee and other sources for caffeine...

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
