I've heard of the Quitters Flu but I'm not convinced this is it because it hasn't been THIS bad until today, day 7.

 

I've been concerned the last month or two about fatigue which is part of the reason I quit...worried about health. Today is awful though. All i want to do is sleep. I woke up at 7, laid back down at 10:45 and just woke up. I'm still sleepy and headed back to bed.

 

Anyone experience this suddenly, a week in?

Every quit is different, Michelle.  I have heard of people getting the "quitters flu" even later in their quit than you.  Your body and mind are going through tremendous changes, and for some of us that manifests itself as extreme fatigue.  I can't tell you when it will get better, but I know it will.  Your body may be telling you to rest as it heals.

 

Although at this point it probably is related to your quit, many of us (myself included) try to blame everything that happens to us on our quit, so I would advise caution in that area.

ya its telling me to go back to sleep. I have stuff to DO though darn it. Sigh. I suppose I should listen to it, whatever it is.

 

I'm losing weight too so I could call myself a big quitter AND a big loser!!!!

Wow!!  You are a lucky quitter to not have to fight weight gain!!

Well I have only been quit for a week so I'm afraid of a gain coming. I've lost about 33lbs over the last few years.....the most recent loss is 15 (of that 33) I was stalled and bouncing back and forth in a 15lb range for a few years....anyway...I'm very protective of my weight loss so I'm being careful what I eat. Gonna lay off the blow pops asap and get back to the healthy diet asap. For me, food is like cigs or drugs. If I let my guard down for a moment for a "break" then usually I slip into a lapse that lasts a long time

 

That being said, keeping off cigs is the most important thing right now.

Oh and I got up and moved around a bit...drank a big glass of ice water then went out and sat it the sun....its Seattle after all and our spring has been playing hide and seek with us for weeks. You learn to appreciate the sunshine when you can get it. Anyway...after some water and Vitamin D I feel a bit better, though not normal by any means.

 

Requested a doctor's appt online for a checkup.  Waiting for notice of appt. Gonna tell her I quit and I just want a general checkup and smoking related disease screening. Time to take care of me.

I definitely had what felt like the flu...aches and pains, fatigue etc. Good you are getting checked out. That feeling did go away. I guess it is just related to metabolism readjusting, and body detoxing. As they always say here....drinks lots and lots of water. Best of luck to you in your quit, Michele. You're a trooper!

Thank you!!! So are you!!! you quit the day after my birthday. Awesome. Yeah I'm gonna flood myself with water with lemon and start exercising again. I bet that the last thing I feel like doing is probably the best thing to combat the fatigue.

Well done on recognising what could alleviate how you're feeling. Our sleeping patterns seem to be disturbed slightly as we are healing.  Tiredness seems to alternate with some insomnia for some, not for all. I think it's great to get checked out, that said most GPs have no idea what symptoms are from the quit and that's just because no two quits are alike.

 

Water and movement and vitamin D sound like a winning combo to me. xx

Hey Michelle. Great work on the weight and the quit. Impressive stuff.

 

Anxiety? Unexplained lethargy? Stress?....yup that's a quitter.

 

Loads going on with your body chemistry - keep doing what you know is right and everything balances out soon enough.

 

Oh...

 

and SMILE! You quit smoking. 'Atta girl!

Your body is recovering my lovely, its getting rid of all the nasty toxins that have built up, its working extra hard, treat yourself, lovely hot baths, relaxing music, you deserve to pamper yourself, remember YOU QUIT SMOKING happy dance xx

Hey Michelle sounds like quit flu to me ... I know I felt terrible for the first few weeks but I looked at it as detoxing ... Keeping up the water will help, and great job checking with you doctor - if they are anything like mine they will be so happy for you :-)

I agree with Everyone else Michelle. There does seem to be a Quitter's Flu. I too felt pretty awful but it gets better. I was not at all prepared for the healing process & the nasty toxins leaving my body. Reading, watching Joel's videos & help on this site got me through it. I wanted to sleep a lot in the first week too & had all kinds of physical aches & pains. They eventually did go away. But seeing your Doc is a great idea. Your Doc will be very happy with your decision to Quit & will help you through it. Seeing a Doc will help with any heAlth fears you are having too. I think many of us go through that as a part of the whole process.

You are doing great! You WILL win! It all takes time & it does get frustrating but when you look back & see how far you have come you will be so proud & you will want to help another Newbie with all the stuff you have just come through yourself. I do! Good luck!!!

A few easy things to do on the home front are to be consistent with your water intake, warm lemon water in the morning and epsom salt baths.  They just help a bit in pushing the toxins out.  It does get better!
