Now that I have got my smoking under control it is time to start to deal with my weight.  I have gone on to a diet, I started it on

on the 20 April and have lost 2 kgs this week.  I'm not saying what weight I am until I get a bit further down.

It isn't diet all I have done is cut out sugar and do one protein drink a day.  Made up the diet myself.

I haven't started to exercise yet as I am not sure what to do.  Will have to work that out.  As I have a bad back and stops me from doing quite a few things, so if you have any suggestions.  I can't run.

So every week I will weigh myself and post it here.  Hopefully this will keep me accountable.

Please if anybody has any suggestions to help me with what to add to my diet and exercise please post.

excellent Gabby!!  Exactly how I did it too...quitting smoking was top priority and then I moved on to losing weight and getting fit.  The skills you learn on your quit journey and the confidence it has given you will help you in this area tremendously.

There is always a modification for exercise.  Just make sure you move...for at least 30 minutes...5 times a week.  Start with walking.  30 minutes.  See if you can go a little faster as time goes on and go a little further in that 30 min.   So that eventually you are raising your heart rate a bit during your walk.  Then at least 2 times a week...some strength training...get a pair of dumb bells and find videos online for exercises.  Same for abs...if you tighten your core..that may help your back issues...along with the weight loss.

You can do this Gabby!!  One day at a time  :)

I started by walking and some gentle yoga, you can find yoga on you tube for free, just search for bad back ones. There's even sitting exercise if you want to be sure to be ok. However, I think it was the sarge who said the changes are more in the kitchen than the gym, very true! Agree with a gradual change. Oh exciting but no real advice as I always plateau and get bored lol. x

Phew, Phew PHEW!    When I read the title I thought you may have lost your quit and I couldn't breath for just a minute.  :)

I too am starting down the road to fitness.  After many stops and starts to get this weight off since I quit smoking I feel I am finally in a place to make that happen.

We can take this journey together too!

You are fearless my friend!

That's great!  Yes, changes in the kitchen for sure. Some people have a cheat meal once a week.  I think that is a great idea so you can still enjoy the junk once in a while.  I wonder if having a small cheat item once a day would work instead?  Like a small handful of M&Ms or a scoop of ice cream after dinner - then smaller portions of healthy stuff the rest of the day?  I don't know.

What about stationary biking?  Yoga is a great idea too to get your body moving around and stretching out.  As you go along, you will be gaining strength as well.

Try to find a buddy too, to help hold you accountable.  You and Jenny Jen?? :)

You go, Girl! :)

I too have to take it easy....I found qigong....brilliant....much gentler than yoga....

Also swimming...so relaxing....at my own pace....also as suggested walking....

It also makes me feel....good to be alive....

Well done...xx

Hey Gabby - as the others have said walking and cycling are great to start with ... Can I also suggest some personal training ... That way they can work with you to come up,with a program that works around you injuries ?? I swear by my sessions with my trainer and justify the cost by the money I have saved ... Just a thought :-). Looking forward to reading your journey xx

I want in too!

I easily fall off the diet wagon as well.  I have not been very good this last two weeks.  And did it make me happy? No, not really.  I struggle with feeling sooo deprived when I'm on a "diet"  (cry me a river, I know.)

I have been traveling or working from home the 5 weeks, and will be for another few weeks, so it's been a bit more of a challenge than usual.

Anyway.  I have made a commitment to myself to start fresh today, and for the love of Pete, to not mess it up again.  Time to quit fooling around.

Lost another 1.5 kg I am loosing my little fat face.  Yay  I can see my dimples.  How is everybody else going.  The weight seems to be coming off my face.  I hope it finds its way to my tummy  (he he)  So I will put a picture of me up.  When I am happy with what I have lost.

Oh do it, I'd love to see a picture!  Need to work out what kg are in my stones and pounds speak :)  You sound happy, I'm really pleased for you!

I'm doing good too. You kinda motivated me to give myself a kick. Finally gone under my quit weight at quitting today (had already lost slowly what I had gained). So now just a stone or so to go, will stop when I look toned so not sure what weight that is.
