Hello everyone...I'm here to get back on the train and stay there.  I have smoked and not smoked for decades and now I'm making the commitment to not to ever start back again....whatever it takes.  This last time started with having drinks and they seem to go hand in hand for me.  So I had to give up the alcohol too which is okay...I drank enough for a lifetime anyway :) So now I'm creating a new life for myself which smoking and drinking are no longer in the mix.  As I get older I want to be healthy and not continue to damage my health...enough already.  So now I'm going to get back on that treadmill I have been putting off due to chronic allergy and sinus issues which is a really good reason not to smoke.  I really like it here and I'm learning so much...so glad you are all here.  I hope someday I can be a support for someone who may need it like I do now.

Hugs, Ricki

Welcome to the board Ricki!!

You sound like you are doing well...so, I don't have any advise to give you at this time except to keep doing what you are doing.

One thing I would like to point out.  You can give support from the very first day you quit.  You don't have to have any time under your belt...as a matter of fact..jumping in and helping someone else is beneficial to your quit and a key component to your success.

There's a ton of information here..video, blogs, posts.

Glad you are here...!

congrats to you on 3 days!  Hell week is almost done  :)

HI and welcome on Board Ricki, commitment is the name of the game and NOPE is the pledge to make every day.  Being here and posting is often enough support for us all here, we all are going through the same journey and just knowing there are others around is a big help.  Standing up and say I am an addict and re-educating yourself is a must, I too quit drinking as that also went hand in hand for me, don't miss the booze at all, gave in at christmas and relapsed in my quit also so I know no more drinking for me.  Looking forward to sharing your journey with you xx

Welcome Ricki

I just celebrated 4 years off the booze and 4 months off the cigarettes by participating in a half-marathon.  I improved my finish time by almost 20 minutes compared to when I was smoker.  The thing is - I felt like I was running way slower (when in fact I had made a pretty significant improvement).  That's what quitting has been like for me.

Sometimes I don't respect how much my life has improved in these last 4 months.  I tend to center my thoughts on the negative.  I'm trying to stop this pattern because in reality my life improved immensely.  I feel more confident, calm, and intimate.  I can look people in the eye and hug them harder.  No matter what happens I feel like I can (and will) survive because I have overcome this addiction.  I don't have to stop at the store every day to buy a $10.50 pack.  I don't have to gasp for air while I exercise because I'm in denial about what's actually happening in my poor, strained lungs.  I don't have to worry about smelling bad or figuring out how to escape and get my fix wherever I go.  I don't have to worry about long drives with non-smokers.  And the list goes on and on.

Keep up your quit and start making your way towards a life of freedom.  Tell yourself you're doing great and focus on what has improved rather than focusing on any negative perceptions of the quit.  The nicodemon will constantly attempt to trick you - see through its lies.  You can do this!

Welcome aboard an congrats on your decision to quit for good - the people here are  huge support but you have to do the work -pledge NOPE everyday and just do what needs to be done to be a non-smoker - easiest way it to just not smoke.

Hi Ricki. Drinking as a new ninsmoker can be one of the big hurdles. It was for me. I waited for several months and had one or two in a controlled environment. For me only now can I really tie one on without the overwhelming temptation. sugesst some time under your belt before the big night out.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
