Start here: Couch to 5k forums - it's a program designed to take couch potatoes (non runners) from 0 to 5k (3.1 miles) in a comfortable, easy, anyone-can-do-it manner.

Question on this - like I used to run quite a bit, and then for the last few months life has gotten in the way.

I started couch to 5k and noticed whether I slowed down to a walk in intervals or ran the whole time, I was just as tired.  Would you suggest still following the program or just saying to heck with it and run the whole time?  I'm not quite "feeling it" yet either way.

That's the beauty of running: you can do whatever you want to and still make improvements - as long as you continue to run and don't bail out back to a lifetime on the couch.

 

The Sarge's official recommendation: do whatever you want, as long as you take it easy and don't push to injury.

 

Run, walk, hell - skip or do an Irish Jig if you want ... Just start logging miles and don't stop.

Ava, the idea is to get your butt moving on a regular basis and sweat.  Ain't into it?  Life getting in the way?  Horse hockey.  That is junkie thinking about exercising.  Get moving, Ava.

Thanks very much for the link Sarge, have just book marked it. Will read the tips for new runners.

 

Just got in from work and gone straight out for me 3:30 time. That will be my habit I think, in then straight out. Feel good a rush like feeling...feels good.

Sarge....

 

It is no doubt under my nose but I just can't seem to find 'the plan'

 

It says, tip 7, about not running everyday when following the plan so if you get a minute would you giving me 'the plan' link.

So it's what EB was talking about then, the run and walk plan. Yes....this sounds right up my street.

Today, I will run after work! Maybe not so far, maybe not so fast. But I will run and even walk between running. And that's ok.

I love running I never saw this thread before, even as a smoker I was a runner of at least 8 miles a day. Now most days 12 miles it takes a few hrs but that's okay. Lol Sarge that clip was very funny

The Sarge trained for, and finished his first marathon as a smoker.

 

Not 4 minutes after crossing the finish line, he was digging in his pack for a lighter ...
