SNOW

this morning almost too deep to move through...

in my mind hear the Goddess of the Quit whisper ~

I will wrap you in this still, surreal, beautiful landscape

   while you get your bearings.

SNOW

was it always this white? so...bright?

BEFORE the quit

i would be tramping off to the corner store for smokes

and stale coffee

i would be standing in the blizzard, standing in some

bleak outside space with my eyelashes crusted with white

tightly pulling in the corners of myself

puffing, scowling, cursing the snow

puffing, scowling, cursing

puffing puffing scowling cursing

puffing

like a frozen corpse in a frozen hell

SNOW

it swirls against the window where I am now all cozy

sitting in the best seat of the upscale neighborhood cafe

drinking very good espresso and eating a

lemon pecan scone

The Goddess of the Quit breathes blessings into my being

and her breath smells like sweet candy

She whispers ~

I know today, all day, you will say....

I jump in, yes, I will say...

I will say ~ Nope! Not one puff!

the barista has put on some kind of chiming bells music, like

electronic gamelan and i could get up and dance i could hug all the

coffee drinkers i could pet all the dogs under the tables licking the

snow off their cold paws

The Goddess of the Quit whispers ~

This is a taste of the new normal.

Wow!

I smile a secret smile.

This is the peace, you see glimpses of it now.  Soon, this tide will start to turn and this will be your new normal, with an occassional trigger...moving onto a peace with an occassional thought. Remember this feeling through the hard times, this is where you are heading to.

I love the term goddess of the quit. It almost feels like you believe your quit is supported and I like that for you.

I have no idea who the Goddess of the Quit is...maybe it's the best part of me. I see the quit as something I am doing...but right action somehow feels to be supported because it's life affirming. I'm happy today, and Ms. SP, thanks again, for your wisdom. I'll tuck this feeling away in my toolbox. cpk

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
