I saw this on FB thought I would share it for anyone who might feed their dogs purina beneful.....there is a class action lawsuit against them regarding an ingredient in their food causing illness and death. I dont use this food but there those that do and I wouldnt want anything to happen to their furbabies.

I haven't read the article yet, but will...

We used to feed our beagle beniful for older overweight dogs (healthy choice I think it was called)..

We have since switched and feed both our dogs blue buffalo brand....the beagle is losing weight, and generally healthier..

Wow... Just read the article....

Our beagle had the same (similar) problems...

In a nut shell she was bleeding internally, and the vet asked if there was any chance she had gotten Ito any poison...we didn't think so, but I went home and checked every conceivable place that there may have been something, remember, she is a beagle and that nose gets her into more trouble than anything else...lol... Anyhow, I found nothing..she spent 2 weeks at the vet, and 2 blood transfusions later she came home.....and that's when we followed the vets recommendation to feed her the blue buffalo brand food...

She got better, and because BB is better for her, we don't feed her as much and she has lost weight...she is still "healthy" , but not obese..

With all that said, ..if any of you use this brand...I wouldn't take any chances..there are too many brands to chose from that you don't need to gamble on this one....

Just my $.02

Fromm.  It's the only thing my dogs eat.  Never, ever a recall.  Check them out.  Can be a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.  I've been buying the 4 star.

http://frommfamily.com/

When you switch to a quality dry food like this, you will see a difference in your dog.

I always pre-soak the food in water before feeding them.  I mix in some Bronson rvitamin C and Nupro Joint & ImmunityPowder.

FYI, when I met my wife she was feeding her dog Beneful.  He was lazy, could barely walk, rarely barked and looked like he was going to die any day.  He is now on Fromm and will be 16 years old this year!  He is now a pain in my ass and won't shut up.  If he gets loose, we find him miles away.  This dog gone from a comatose state to non-stop pain in the ass.  This is a good thing and shows the difference that quality food makes.

He's old.  You can tell that his hips bother him.  He has Lyme's Disease.  He's going to be 16 and is a medium sized mutt.  He is healthier now than he was 10 years ago.

My Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a ******* beast.  He is solid muscle and perfect.  His treats are carrots, green beans and broccoli.  I wouldn't feed him anything but a quality kibble.  If I had the time, I would cook his food for him each day (really the best way, or a raw diet) but I just don't have the time for that.  The next best thing is quality food like Fromm.

I used to feed blue buffalo but the vitabits were all over the floor got tired of them lol still feed my cat that cause he had kidney issues and he does well along with cans of tuna and such, I recently switched to nutro brand dog food and lady has actually gained weight(she needs to she was to thin has stomach issues along with chronic pancreatitis) She is filling out better and seems in general healthier, my other dogs have stomachs like a cast iron stove lol, but they are doing well on nutro also(they did fine on blue buffalo also) I also read that occasionally you need to change your dogs food so not to create any sensitivities and such it is in the following article.

In all honestly I spend less on dogfood now then when I fed my dogs crap because they eat less and receive better nutrition.

I don't know if this is true BUT purrina gets a bad rap a lot and they are a big sponser for a lot of dog activities. Years ago they were. Shutzhund usa sponser with PROPLAN also.

I have quit feeding the grains to mine and go with BLUE chicken and rice now because of a horse meat rumor with PROPLAN.

Again not saying this is lie.... But ingredient named is plain old antifreeze for your car and I doubt purrina would use it

As noted in one of the comments to the law suit article, if you work for an animal shelter or know someone who does, please warn them to remove Beneful from their stocks and not accept any Beneful donations.

I can understand (a little) that perhaps some supplier shipped some bad ingredient and Purina didn't know about the problem. But according to the lawsuit article, there have been more than 3000 complaints about Beneful making dogs sick or dead and the company just ignored it. THAT is unforgivable! And, of course, manufacturers do that with human food and cars and cribs and everything. Better to ignore the problem than acknowledge it and fix it for fear of coming to the attention of the litigation attorneys. Who is more at fault-- the companies that knowingly include toxins, the companies that deny any problems or the attorneys who peruse the newspapers looking for sad situations with deep pockets that can be picked. Disgusting, every one of them.

Proplan is okay.  Used to feed my GSD's that all the time.  In fact, I would buy it by the pallet to get the best price.  Both GSD's died early but I suspect vaccinations as the cause.

I was talking to a veterinarian from Cornell University one day and he told me about the vaccinations.  My Chessie get's titers taken and is exempt from getting any rabies bullshit shot.  :)  Rabies shots are okay but last 6,7 years.  Get titers taken and they tell you exactly what your dogs need and what they don't.

Before I knew better I used to feed beneful and two of my boxers died of cancer. I switch between Acana and Taste of the Wild now.

The first time our cat had fleas we used Hartz flea powder on him. An hour later he was sick as a dog (pardon the pun). He was hiding under the bed obviously feeling miserable and his eyes and nose were running. We rushed him to the vet. Turns out he was having an allergic reaction to the flea powder so the vet shot him up with benedril. The vet said to never use Hartz flea products because they are often toxic to cats (I don't know about dogs).

Since then we have used Revolution every summer (and Capstar once in a while) with no problems.

I get all my dogs vaccines especially lymes vaccine I  had a dog with lymes disease and it is very crippling and painful so I will always get them their lymes vaccines to prevent that from happening to any of them. It is inevitable for dogs to pick up ticks even with frontline or other tick repellant stuff imo better safe than sorry.....if they had a vaccine for humans for lymes I would get that myself, luckily I have never had it myself but have known people who have and it can be debilitating. I hate ticks they freak me out icky little bloodsuckers ewww.
