Star Ratings??

Can someone please explain what this star rating thing is - its been bugging me for days - is it like MacDonalds the more chips you fry the more stars you have??

I asked last week  and here is what I got:

 

My understanding (very limited...) is that the star rating has partially to do with number of comments made, number of comments liked, and personal ratings - so the star rating can go down or up depending on a number of factors.

 

I can go to your profile and click and give you 5 stars, but that doesn't mean it will stay that way...
