content in your position-  place in your quit...enjoy where you are at, as you wont have to pass through it again....that was my drive during entire quit....wont be here again....also know the struggle was worth the effort was worth the outcome.....

sure I could have killed some people on the way, but I didn't....

I am way past any struggle now.  and I know the smoking was actually a big lie....the feelings it gave were not real, they were perceived as a real feeling of control or relief, but they really were the opposite when I puffed. I puffed to reach the next puff. Now I walk or ride or talk to do that, not because I puff when I do it...

make any sense?  Like when you first quit, feeling of missing something, but in reality your not and only way down the road do you realize it?

MQ posted the other day some idea of enjoy your current location or position. You wont be here again and don't bet the future is that much better than now is my take on it. I liked it.

Made me think of the keep marching, enjoy the marching, put your head down, push through the hard part, watch it grow easier till you enjoy the march...That is quiting, enjoy it and it will be easier. Fight it, cry and complain and it can eat you. But realize its not to hard, really if all the window lickers here can do it, you can. I had Babs and Sgt in front of me, two giant PITA personalities. Push it, Push it real good commercial comes to mind. They pointed out it gets easier, well first month they were liars, it was hard, but then the light came on and it did get easier. So keep marching, grab a saying and hold on, but it get easier and one way is to enjoy where you are, being content in the moment....

Every little hour of not smoking takes you closer to 'content'.

Every crave that you overcome - takes you closer to 'content'.

Every celebration thread - is you getting closer to 'content'.

I followed plenty of people telling me that "it will get better" - "its easy" - all the time thinking "WHAT??????" "WHEN?????"

It gets better. It's easy.

Feel like having a cigarette? Why? You quit. You don't smoke cigarettes anymore. Move on.

That's not so tough now is it?

You can do this. You can.

I did.

Jesus. The village idiot did.

burrito is content in his position as a crossdresser.  I can be content occasionally to try frilly underwear, sonic is content being meathead, I became the village idiot to be content with not trying to over think it.

content doesn't have to be in the future...even when tough be content that you are at THAT POINT, and still moving . Sgt kind of preached a tough Just Do it stance, but I interpret it as enjoy a struggle, its good for the soul to exercise it and then you really appreciate the easy times.

This is so true bakon. We all have to keep marching, marching and

marching some more and eventually we are where we need to be and the struggle becomes less and less. I have " marched" this month when I didn't think I could take one more step..I knew I would relapse...but I didn't I forced myself to march relied on many of you to push me forward AND Wednesday will be my 4 months! I really didn't think I could do it and for awhile didn't care...so Keep Marching QT'ers..hop on the bus, hold on! The ride may get bumpy, we may have some unexpected stops but at the end, we will have done it together!

Been quit almost 1.5 years. Do I have smoking thoughts? Yup. Do I act on them? HELL NO.

I'd rather stick a living snake in my bottom then smoke again. I am a non smoker and could not be more content.

Keep the quit...life is SO much better on the other side. (It would have to be a small fang-less snake)

Yes.....I can do this. It's just hard some days. Today was one of them. Day 11. I just need sleep. And decreased stress....my job is very stressful. But that's life! Right?

Tyme - you are right. You can do this.

Actually - you have. :)

Life can be stressful (although in fairness, very few of us are having to outrun Sabre tooth tigers anymore to survive - oh wait - you're in Canada; are you a bear-wrestler?) - sorry I digress - Life can be stressful, but take a moment from your stressful day Tyme - and just choose to be content for a moment. Say out loud "I quit smoking. And you know? I am glad I did"

Do that every day. You have done an amazing thing Tyme. Well done.

Whoop Whoop loving this post, keeping it real Bakon, I so want the feeling of content, hate this "emptiness" but know it will pass, month 3 and month 7 will not happen this time, I will deal with them knowing that it will get better,

I think I want that.

Mike there is no Think, take the think out of that sentence and what do you have I WANT THAT....keep saying that, repeat after me NOPE even for the next 5 mins, and keep that on a loop.  Love reading all the wonderful quitters who joined along with me way back last year, who kept the NOPE and seeing them say it does get easier, do you know something, I believe you.

I feel content...yes. :)  I was actually just recently talking to a friend about our quit and how it changed our lives...even our perspectives.  Looking back, we agreed that smoking is like passively watching life happen in front of you...like sitting on the porch smoking while people and cars passed me by.   Life used to revolve around when my next smoke will be, whether I'm riding, playing hockey, fishing, etc.  Life was secondary.  Not anymore though.  Now, life comes first.  Now, as weird as it may sound, I am being pro-active in living my own life.  I'm in charge now.  And it feels great, to be honest. :)

So yes...I feel very content.  But having said that, I also remain very aware that it only takes one puff.

I like this sentiment Bakon.  Even on the days with thought's I am content that I quit smoking, most days are a breeze now.

I felt like a fraud sometimes saying "it will get easier"...I simply meant you have more easy days. Now a bad day is about people, never smoking, less than a year! Pretty impressive. I want to say I never embraced the suck, there were days I felt damn dreary but I never gave up hope that those before me were telling the truth which is...

We all want the freedom from nicotine...crave, fix, crave, fix is absolutely no way to live!!!

No matter how tough the moment, we had that the day we chose not to smoke again...

This site and these comments are simply inspiring.

Wonderful thread.  Most of us worked very hard to get to "content"....but it sure as hell was worth it...

People respond in different ways on this journey...I was mostly a "fake it til you make it" quitter...wouldn't ask for help unless it was really bad.  Cheering on others made me think I could not smoke...I would let too many people down.

However we get to "content" is all good...and I wouldn't trade getting to know all of you for a blue nosed mule.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
