traveling through Oregon this summer, are you inviting me to stop for a drink at a bar in your town? (wife too and few friends)

going north to south, should I stay on coast, take the road up the Columbia river for some way and cut down to Crater lake, or stop anywhere in particular?

the answers here will ddetermine next ones......

What is the best part of living in Oregon.

Is there anywhere in the USA that you would rather live? Abroad?

What is your dream vacation?

The best part of living in Oregon is the natural landscape.

I adore Oregon, my coast and temperate rain forest are the only place I will ever feel at home. I tried moving around the US, and I always come right back home. Honestly, I can't say about moving abroad because I have never been out of the country.

My dream vacation would be to see Sweden and Germany and learn about my heritage. Then I would have to go to Egypt, because I have wanted to go since I was 5.

Sounds like your summer is going to be awesome! Im in Eugene, so if you are not allergic to hippies you can stop by for a drink.  :P

Astoria and Newport on the northern coast. The gorge is fantastic and is a must do with Crown point and Multnomah falls as essential stopping points.

I love driving down 101 so that would be the best way to get from north to south in my opinion.  I am not very familiar with eastern Oregon so not sure of another way to advise getting to Crater Lake from the gorge.

From Eugene we drive south on I-5 to Roseburg and then head over towards Crater Lake through the Umpqua Forest. There you can find some amazing scenery, awesome forest service lookout towers available for renting, the worlds tallest sugar pine tree, and then of course the lake itself.

Another place worth mentioning is Bandon, it's another coastal stop far south but the rock formations and atmosphere are unique.

Oregon is awesome.

if link works check out seattle ride and the Oregon part....

if link don't work...

plan was to go through valley starting in ausoria going east, then down to Mt Hood, then through Bend to Crater lake

or from Mt Hood to cut back to Portland and down to Eugene on highway 5 then to Crater lake

after that to west coast again via crossing 5 to 42 to just a hair above bandon.

if we are drinking we will have to cut through Eugene....is that got something famous like the school from Animal house or sumthing?

ok, so do I need a toga? what bar so I can google?  smarti can verify we like to drink more than two.

We are traveling on bikes so two wheels + two beers or parked for the night at three.

We are thinking Portland first night in Oregon, up the gourge next day, around Mt Hood, then half way down 26 to 97  to Crater lake and stop for night over there. Then Crater lake out to coast again.

Or better to Portland, circle Mt Hood and come back out to main road down to Eugene? Stay in Portland or Eugene that night.

Crater Lake worth the effort is the question I guess or just do the coast? ANd if worth seeing, what route?
