Me personally I would pick Northern Spain and Lisbon. There is just way to much turmoil going on all over the African continent. IMO

It depends what you want to get from it.

Spain is beautiful. Good for wandering round places of interest although I don't know northern spain specifically.

Africa is much more raw. And hot but you'll probably be ok with that :)  There are a ton of smaller visits they arrange but it's mostly about safari's and the animals wake early..so the safari's are early.

For me, Africa would win every time but I see most people think Spain. Maybe because I've done bits of spain. The scenery is breath taking and there are lots of old places to see (which I like) and they seem quite art gallery ish (which is not for me, maybe you though).  Perhaps it's worth googling places of interest in the part you want to visit...to see if you're actually interested?

One of my work buddies just got back from an African Safari, and he loved it. Not sure if it's my cup if tea though... In fact, if I lived in Florida, I wouldn't need holidays ;)

Lisbon is typical city has its cultural parts and its dives not much to write home about to be honest, its also expensive, food is fab though! and im not a city person so am biased lol

I have been on a safari to east Africa it was a 2 centre holiday 1 week safari and 1 week in Mombasa I loved the safari, felt safe and hotels and lodges were great, full days as early mornings and late night drives I fully recommend if you do a safari to have it as a package before you go as you will know your full itinerary and all accommodation and guides are approved, you can book safaris when out there which are cheaper but you get what you pay for and places like that its better to be safe then sorry!

expect a minibus fest when one of the big 5 is seen, they all get on their radios and before you know it there are 30 buses to 1 lion but saying that it was the most awesome experience that i would do again but in south africa but in this current political and disease climate i would not be going there

the mombasa bit was horrid, hotel had armed guards to keep beggars and thieves out and it was a run for the gauntlet to get to the sea as you would get plagued by locals selling and they can be quite aggressive in their approach, never felt safe there!

Northern Spain would get my vote, culture, beauty, cities it has it all I would recommend visiting Tripadvisor to check on any holiday or accommodation and only book if 3 or more green stars

we are off in 3 weeks time to arizona and grand canyon for a weeks respite from ohio winter :)

please dont let what i say put you off any, its only my experience and opinion and food for thought x

happy and safe travels mel wherever you decide to go x
