Oh Wendy, I'm sorry you're having a hard time sleeping hun...messed up sleep patterns are pretty common after we quit,.. someone smarter than myself will have to explain why.. as for remedies,.. for me walking and playing boxing on Wii helped to tire me out a few hours before bed time.. sometimes warm milk at bedtime and I'd put something boring on tv - it kept me from jumping from one thought to the next to the next keeping myself awake..if nothing else maybe you should see your Dr.. sleep deprivation can really wreak havoc in your day to day life..hope you're sleeping soon !  :)

Hi Wendy.....

I think this is common.....when our quits are in the early stages....it's all part of the healing process....

My body was thrown in utter chaos....my sleep was so messed up.....sometimes I was on the board all night....

Just sleeping naps here and there.....

But I told myself.....it's my body learning to cope with nicotine....it will get better....

After a while it started to get better and better...until I was back to sleeping proper regular hours.....

Our bodies have a lot of catching up to do.....years of toxins.....

It will happen sweetheart....be patient.....

Hugs xxxx

Hi Wendy,

It can be quit related, I think we all struggled over a few weeks. But if yours has been going on longer and it's really affecting you here's some tips. Peppermint tea, drink a cup about half hour before bed. Lavender scents, or if it's stress keeping you awake Vanilla scents. Personally, when I'm on a bad run of sleeping and it's become a pattern I hit the nightnurse medicine for 3 nights straight - just to get a better pattern going again.

When you've not slept, mind over matter is pretty important. For instance, tell yourself you feel crap and you will, tell yourself it's ok, you can manage and will have an early night and you may well feel a bit better.

Feel for you, insomnia can be awful. Hugs hun. xx

Since I'm on call and work around the clock I've learned to cat nap my way through it. I hardly ever sleep more than three or four hours at a time.

Try looking at non smoking cats and dogs when you're having trouble sleeping. It may not help you sleep but it will put a smile on your face :)

I wish I could give you good advice - if you find something good share it with me and Bat - 3 or 4 hours is generally a goodnight for me as well.

Mine is not quit related been doing that as long as I can remember.  Good Luck!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
