hello .. today is my day 2

Hello everyone .. i have been reading the forums for a couple of days ... so thought that i should introduce myself and get support with my journey to quit ...  i have been smoking for almost 14 years since undergrad .. it started with a couple cigarettes a week to 5 to 6 a day on a daily basis ... and this doubles in times of stress and with drinks ... 

 

I tried to quit in the past  .. used nicotine tablets and patches ... more recently i starting vaping electronic cigarettes .. but when the charge ran out or the coil needed to be changed or the juice ran out .. i would go back to smoking ... 

 

i would always tell myself .. i am only smoking a few a day and not a whole pack .. so therefore i am not a chain smoker and i can quite whenever i want ... but NO i was wrong ... trying to quite has been very difficult for me .. and i feel this reflects in the person i have become .. i give up very easily when it gets tough ... and tend to always create an excuse or procrastinate .. 

 

yesterday i quite cold turkey and  i am starting off with day 2 ... i have been feeling very jittery since morning.. but i am forcing myself to meditate the moment i get an urge ..

Welcome to the QT and congratulations on quitting! There is tons of information in the Quit smoking discussion forum, there is a great SOS pre-response thread and of course there are some game threads to keep you busy too!

I found meditation to be a great way to ride through craves, glad to see meditation is working for you as well.

 

Please post all over the board !  It will help distract you from smoking and will provide some fun too.

Hi and welcome on board, and congratulations on the best decision you will ever make, quitting, as our lovely DD has said read. the best thing you can do is educate yourself on your nicotine addiction, we have lots of lovely people here, and we are all here to help and support you as much or as little as you need, one important thing do not be afraid of your quit, be stronger than the crave and remember a crave is just a thought, it will not harm you, but lighting your cigarette will , focus on the positives and remember the addict may well try and trick you! Post and stay close, looking forward to sharing your journey xx

Welcome to the board, yabmob!  As DD says, there is a lot of valuable information here.  There are also a lot of people who have been where you are right now who are anxious to cheer you on, and help when you become discouraged.  You can do this, and we will be right here whenever you need us!

Hi and welcome....you have recieved great advice.....

Read all you can about this addiction...why we are hooked....

It is so doable....I'm a life long smoker....I promise its possible...

You just have to want to quit....more than you want to smoke....

Stay. Lose to the board....all the support you need ....is right here...

You can do it.....

hey and welcome. Just do it and get it done :)  Quitting is mental, meditation will definately help, great choice! Look forward to reading you. Post, a lot, it helps. We want to be there for you too so asks anything whenever it enters your mind. Games on the social bit kept me in touch with the site when I needed friends but didn't want to "talk". I am excited for your freedom! It really is fabulous later on and worth the journey I promise. xx

Welcome and congrats on being a non-smoker!  Drink lots of water and remember, your body is fast at work ridding itself of all the toxins and poisons that you've been feeding it.

Congratulations on making the best decision ever. I find it helps me to commit to NOPE (not one puff ever) each day to remind myself why I quit and keep myself accountable.

 

Some great folks here that will be instrumental in your quit - please stay close to the board and post and read as often as possible - you can do this!

its that time in the day when i am ready to call it a night and go sleep ... but i have this real strong craving to light one up .. good thing i dont have any with me ... and its too cold to drive to the gas station on a cold night ... :)

 

day 2 over ... i closed my eyes and took a deep breath ..

Great news!! Rest easy.  Also a heads up, I just noticed you're quitting cold turkey, maybe get some fruit juice tomoz and take sips ofit every couple of hours. Your blood sugars jump around a bit (something to do with chemicals in cigs) and they can feel a bit like a crave and or/make you feel tired. The natural lift of a fruit juice helps and also moves the nicotine out your system quicker if it's cranberry juice.  Any will help if you don't like cranberry though.

 

Today when you wake you will complete 72 hours and the last of your nicotine will be gone from your body!!  

 

Don't forget the key here is distraction. Sips of cold water. Click your fingers. Suck air through a straw. Hard boiled candy. Jumping from foot to foot. Using the work NOPE either in your head or out loud. Go for a power walk...all exercise stops a crave dead in it's tracks. Any of these may help :)

Keep busy and drink fruit juices, get exercising if you can, a walk or run works wonders

Welcome aboard YabMob - it's always good to have new train riders - this is a great ride and there is no shortage of support if you need or want it.

Keep us all posted and just remember this is a not a whim or a change of pace it is a real life change so enjoy it and take in minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day etc.. Congrats on your decision to quit and also on having a few days under your belt.

This is an amazing and wonderful group of people, and a awesome decision that you have made!

 

Nope, Halt, and One day at a time your way to freedom!

 

I am rather new here myself, but I am sooooo glad to be free from the expense, stench and illness associated with cigarettes. You can do anything you need to do to get through the tough times, just so long as its not smoking. Sleep, shower, tea or cocoa, yelling, crying, laughing, games, movies, going for a walk, ect.
