Selfish smokers?

action

Recommended Posts

Something I saw yesterday made me think about what sort of person I was as a smoker; a selfish one.

We were at a 2 years olds birthday party, and when the birthday girl wanted to open her presents, she was told no, because she had to wait for mum... Mum was outside having a cigarette. Cue a crying (bawling) child for the next 3-4 minutes... Heartbreaking to be honest.

It made me remember how selfish I was as a smoker. Always thinking of myself before anyone else. Smoking in the car even if it made Tasha poorly, leaving her alone in a restaurant to go for a smoke, refusing to do things if they interfered with my smoking. I never want to be that person ever again.

Who else here was a selfish smoker?

When our kiddy were growing up ( long time ago now ) ...tony and I both smoked....

I sure our kids had to stand around so mant times while the two of us had our fix....just looking on.....

When nicky came over to visit...I would leave her sitting on her own ..while I went outside....

Last time she was home ...she commented how lovely it was to sit and chat and have coffee with any interruptions....

Was I selfish .....you bet I was.......

The very act of smoking is selfish if you think about it i.e. killing yourself slowly despite family and friends, wasting money and time.  However, I know I have made my staff stand with me outside while I smoked while I reviewed their work, made my boss wait for me while I smoked, made my sister panic while I ran outside the airport to smoke right before our plane was leaving, etc. etc.

I think smoking Was both selfish and sacrificing but then when we were smokers we never would have seen this point of view but the day you do see it is the day you hopefully decide to quit, don't hesitate.

True Tracey, I never saw it when I was a smoker... Getting my fix was number 1 priority above all else!

Back when I had delivered my babies.....smoking was allowed on the wards.....

These poor little babes with new lungs having to deal with smoking mums.....

I should say I was selfish....

Things were so ignorant back then...

My kids have never been smokers..I'm so pleased about that....

I was that person once.......Makes me sad to think about how often I made my kids wait so I could get my fix.  When people question if they are "addicts" as smokers be assured that doing things like that makes you most def an addict.

I agree - I can't believe how inconsiderate I really was - no more "hang on I'll be there in a minute or go ahead and start without me" I missed some good moments because I needed to go outside for smoke - and I know I have held up others as well waiting for me.  What a real Ass!

Ah stop I could go on and on about how often I'd choose cigs over my babies and hubby, breaks my heart the amount of times I would fob them off when they wanted me for something because I wanted to smoke,

Every smoker is a selfish person even if they try deny it, its called denial.
