I am wrapping up day 6 of my quit and found this forum.

Not sure where to start, but basically I wound up with pneumonia and the feeling of wanting a breath of air that I couldn't make my lungs take scared the heck out of me. The fear in that feeling was the final straw.

I am 31 years old and started smoking when I was 13. I have three children (7,6 and 1) and one of the biggest regrets/shame in my life is not quiting during pregnancy.

My grandfather died of lung cancer when I was 6, my grandmother has emphyzema as well as an oxygen tank and my father also has emphyzema.

My husband has also quit smoking.

Aside from my history with cigarettes, I live in Oregon and I am an accountant.

I am glad I found this forum!

Hiya Kristin welcome and congrats on quitting, best decision ever, well done on almost completing the hardest week, look forward to getting to know you, totally understand about the shame and ive three kids aswell 8, nearly 5 and three, my oldest begged me to quit, he wouldn't kiss or hug me anymore because I stank, broke my heart and I couldn't do that to him anymore, getting hugs and kisses non stop off all them now, that alone made this quit soooo worthwhile and my younger two don't remember me as a smoker.

You have no need to feel shame ever again you have done the best thing for you and yours,

Just shout if you need anything,

Hey Kristin - Welcome aboard! Congrats on your soon to be first week quit  -that is a tremendous accomplishment! Such a great decision

I hope you are feeling better - on the bright side, maybe that scare is what you needed to finally take control over this addiction. It's not easy

but it really isn't that difficult either if it really is what you want-  I have 3 kids as well - 6, 10 & 12 so I know what it is like - the last 3 months and

counting have been amazing - and my kids are so happy which makes it even better.  Hang in there this is a great group - there is always someone

here to encourage / support you if you need it.

What do you mean the numbers game?

I am feeling better from the pneumonia, starting to get a little tired of the constant thoughts about cigarettes but the only way to have less of them is to keep going right? :)

Hi Kristin!

Sounds like a perfect time for you to quit. :) You have a lot of people to keep you motivated, which is good. Congrats on your 6 days and congrats on your husband for quitting as well! I have asthma and when I smoked, I would sometimes gasp for air. It was terrifying and I never want to go back to that again.

We're here with you every step of the way, so feel free to post as often as you'd like!
