You made your decision, now you should stick with it... Be tough and do not let those cigarettes win! You can do this, just hang out with is, try to take your mind off it and get distracted!

We've all been where you are now, and we promise that t only gets better!

Totally, it feels SO intense!

No, it won't be like that forever!

Every time you face that feeling, it has less power over you. Those who make it sound hard forever (shh dramatic lol). I too promise it gets easier.

The forum saved me and others, so post, it's why we hang out here, to help.

Day 3 now?

Much love and support. X

Hi geri....sorry I'm late here....

Your now on day three.....your body will soon be rid of all the crap...that's in cigs....

The craves can be a pain....but every time you fight it...your getting nearer to your goal....

Most of us here ...have been where you are...and I've read some funny ways of dealing with the craves...

But they all work.....

I stayed with the board nearly 24 hours of every day...reading till my eyes bled....

Screaming n.o.p.e at the top of my voice....listening to music on a I pod....the loudest it would go ...deafening myself....

You will find your own way...it will work.....turn your negative thoughts into positive ones...

What you are achieving is pretty dam amazin....

Post here often....

Xxxxx

Geri - as usual I'm late .. I blame it on time zones ! I so hope you are feeling better, but it is normal to want to scream, cry, eat Licorice (ok maybe the licorice was just me!). It does get better - in the interim - we are here to,support - so post away whenever you need support - with all the different time zones - there will be someone here for you :-)

It's still early in the morning but please let us know how you're feeling when you wake up.  A new day, one day down!

Oh, and regarding an earlier post you made, post as often as you want.  If you want to post nonstop then do it.  Whatever it takes to stay quit, do it.  It's why we exist.  :)

Hi Geri,

I am only a little ahead of you, so can still remember the first days clearly. YES, it does get better. The only way out is through. Just one day at a time.

Happy Wednesday,

K

I am SO late to this....but I just want you to know.......that little voice that only hears 'smoking sucks, nobody is happy non-smokers, I cant do this, I'll try again some other time, etc'.....thats addiction, whispering in your ear.

Im almost 10 months in....and Im free. TRULY free. I dont know what day it happened, or if there even was a specific day....

I just know that somewhere around 2-3 months I started noticing I had stretches of time where I didnt think about smoking/not smoking at all. Then I noticed those stretches were actually DAYS long. Then weeks. And then one day I just realized I had turned some kind of corner. I USED to be a smoker....but I never will again. I will never return to being a slave to those godforsaken terrible things. I feel great. Do you hear me?? It doesnt suck...its not awful....freedom feels fan-freaking-tastic. And its yours for the taking. All you have to do is NOT TAKE ONE SINGLE PUFF and trust us when we tell you....it will get better. It will get easier. It will become joyful! :)

Hope you are well today.  I found this little gem in Markus' blog and it's very relevant to you (and all of us!).  :)

It takes time to unravel yourself from a life of feeding your addiction to nicotine.

I wish I could say that I remember feeling how you do. Maybe then I could respond in a way that makes sense and maybe help you a bit.

How could I ever know how you feel? I can only read what you say and remember how I felt and write about it.

Was I ever scared. I have faced down a lot in my years. But, I hadn't even quit for 2 minutes and was overcome with such sadness. I was going to lose my old friend, the cigarette and I could tell that I was going to change, and lose some of myself.

It all came true. What I saw when I started did become reality. And, in looking back at that time, I got exactly what I asked for. I made that choice, but I never knew what it would mean.

And so you too will become exactly what you seek if you so choose it. You will lose yourself as you are, and become who you were meant to be, a free person. But, it comes at a price, and we have all had to pay it. You have to leave yourself behind to find yourself anew.

When you can do that you will know that it's real, and that it will be forever. The rest of your life awaits.

Congratulations on your quit!

KTQ,

Markus

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
