But I'm not standing out in the rain, huddled in a group, with my head under my coat trying to light a cigarette but setting fire to my fringe instead.

Smokers eh! Crazy people!

Short term solution to the rain ...come visit me !

Seriously though with all the smoking bans here in Aus now ... In most places you can't even smoke out doors anywhere covered ... Only smoking in car parks or totally exposed ... I really am glad I don't smoke !

It's freezing and lashing today, most definitely a horrible day to be a smoker.

Alright .. Just dusting off the spare room - small warning though ... It will soon be 40 celcius ... We call it bikini weather but some of you find it a little too hot ! Oh - and only one spare room so you are calling spoons or odds and ends a0d0423989cfe63dbac86525c36d6b54_zpsff34

Trying to light up in the wind and the rain....

Soaked to the skin...ash in your eyes....burning your eyebrows and eyelashes off...trying to get that dam lighter to work....

We sure knew how to enjoy ourselves....

Yeah we were all motivated alright for stupidity's sake -  only a smoker or former smoker can get a match to stay lit in a blizzard, rain storm or worse long enough to light up.  What great skills we all aquired to teach our kids.... guess it's back to the other important skills to pass on instead like don't hit girls, eat healthy, don't ever smoke etc..

We all lost our minds to a damned addiction, some of us for years and Years and YEARS.

Thankfully, we came to our senses.

You know,

today as i passed by folks smoking

it was the first time

that the smell registered in my brain as a horrible smell, a hideous smell.

Up until now,

fresh cigarette smoke still smelled sort of good to me...

perhaps just reminding my brain of the comfort I once found by puffing to relieve my withdrawals.

Smells are like that....very attached to memories.

It didn't make me want one or even feel nostalgic...it just smelled inexplicably good.

Until today...

Today was a milestone of sorts.

The smell of a burning cigarette reminded me of nothing nice, nothing comforting.

It was a markedly sharp burning to my nose and eyes,

smelling just like the poisons that it contains.

Toxic. Virulent.

Dangerous.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
