This is crazy!! For the past week or so I have tried and tried to find an excuse to  smoke. Any excuse would have worked. But guess what? There is NO excuse or valid reason to ever smoke again! I imagined so many scenarios!
From petty things like: Would I smoke if the hubby and I had a huge disagreement? What if my mother-in-law pi**ed me off? If my day at work got stressful?

Then there were the huge “I’d smoke if that happened to me” moments: I’d have to have a cigarette if a loved one became ill – or if I became ill.
Or a cigarette would be the only thing that would get me through a death in the family.
What if the sky falls??
NOPE NOPE NOPE
None of these are valid reasons to smoke because there is no reason to smoke!
My non-smoking brain tells me this- but still the junkie thinking will come around and try to steer me off coarse.
I don’t care if my ass falls off; I won’t smoke!
Thankfully, since quitting, I’m not near as impulsive as I once was and was able to halt the junkie thinking. Coming here to read and take the pledge daily is huge.
I also took another long look at my reasons for quitting and also all the benefits I’ve experienced since quitting.
Don’t know what to think of this past weeks’ craziness.
No man’s land? Romancing the cigarette?
Whatever it is – It can f* off!!
I’m a non-smoker and intend to remain one

Awww sweetie this is the tough bit, the rinse and repeat of quitting. It will pass, just nicodemon trying to catch you out. Don't listen and do what you're doing. X

You have a strong quit, Sandy,

where your junkie thoughts are recognized and dismissed.

Isn't it great to take control !

Powerful woman, that Sandy !

Don't despair, those thoughts.  They are useful reminders for N O P E

and get dimmer and quiet in short time,

N O P E

pfffttt... begone !!!

:D

Love,

Wow Sandy. I am sorry that the nicodemon is giving you a go. It really sucks that after 3+ months the thoughts still hit and try to get you back. I personally re-watch all of the documentaries when things start getting hard because they infuriate me.

Sandy, well said!  You are absolutely right....there is no reason good enough to ever light up a cigarette ever again.  There are millions of people out there who deal and handle all types of scenarios without smoking a cigarette.  Now you (and I and all the rest here) are one of "those" people too!

Stay strong in your resolve.  That's all it takes.

As mentioned, I have spent some time thinking about this.  The most helpful thing I tell myself is that I know I am not smoking today. Why worry about the future?

Oh Sandy, don't those feelings just suck? I can see what a strong person you are, and it's good that you are seeing these craves for what they are! You are doing great, and eventually these feelings will go away again. In the meantime, your family is here for you :)

I feel like this happens to me quite often! But I totally agree... THERE IS NO REASON TO SMOKE, just like there was no reason to start smoking in the first place. You are so strong, and this post even gave me more inspiration to tell the daemon to F right off! :) Way to go Sandy!

Blessed be

Sandy - sorry I am late but glad you are soldiering on - if the leashes don't work - can I suggest boxing ? Damn near impossible to light up when you are wearing boxing gloves a0d0423989cfe63dbac86525c36d6b54_zpsff34

Seriously though - your quit to date is awesome but when you think of how long you smoked - it is still relatively new - so it is natural to still have craves - acknowledge them and then move on - you can do this! Also please stay close to the board - the support here will really help you to get through this ! I still remember posting when I was about 3 months in - and The responses I received really helped me to,recognise how rubbish my thoughts were - and helped me recommit to my quit !

Love ya - and know you will stay strong KTQ xx

I don't know what I'd do without the support I receive from all of you!

Sure opens my eyes to the reality that no, I'm no different than any other nicotine addict.

If all of you can quit, so can I.

Thanks!   :)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
