So, I'm looking for a new car, which ranks right up there with root canals in my book.

My questions to you are:

Do you prefer to lease or own your cars???

What is your favorite "get around town with kids" car and why???

Personally, I'm not a looking for a van or a convertible BMW - not that there's anything wrong with that .

I'm probably looking for an SUV with seating for 7, but am curious about what cars you like any way.

I drove  a new Nissan Murano that I leased and LOVED!!!  However, the lease was up and I needed more seating, so I moved to a used Nissan Aramada, which was nice, but I did not like at all cuz it was so big (felt like I was driving a tank) and got terrible gas mileage.

How about you?

Lease?

Pay for something you give back?

Are you crazy?

Haven't had a payment since 1998. When you own, you can keep driving for years, decades even, with no payment.

More Americans waste more money on cars than anyone or anything else in the world. Ever.

Ever.

My current car is killing me in maintenance costs.  We bought a name brand diesel engine SUV (used).  It has 80,000 miles and keeps needing some dumbass ultra expensive maintenance.  I've taken it to the dealer for service and a private shop.  They both find the same problems.  I googled it and sure enough, the car I bought has issues.  We researched it before hand and things were ok.  What a difference a few years makes (I've had it almost three years).  I bought it used thinking it would hold it's value and quality.  I got screwed on this one for sure.

Car payment?  Lovely Petra, I love you dearly, but a car payment?  No thank you, mi amiga!  Rather drive an icky car than pay a car payment.  Paying insurance is more than enough for my frugal self :)

Don't lease, buy less car. Payments are based on interest and balance, not user fees and other ways to say "more interest". Lease only good for a business or to get a car you cant afford to begin with.

But a payment to buy is normal part of life. Great not to have one, but they don't last forever, cars or payments and eventailly you got to have one to get the other. I have multiple cars and try to replace on a rotating scheadule keeping payments to a minimum. I will not lay out 20-55k when it can be financed for 2 percent at 72 months at a credit union or 60 months at zero through a manufacturer. Timing is everything.

Debate new vs used and deprication....I like new, I know I am getting the best deal. If I buy correctly I don't have a depreciation the first year. Used is whatever they set the price at, sometimes close to what I can get a new one for and it got 10-20k miles on it. That's 2-3 years of driving to me. Whats that worth? To me a couple thousand..  new I can usually find for around invoice plus incentives. Current one was 250 below invoice and incentives or roughtly 8k off a 52k sticker. Most these numbers can be found online. Tru-Car, Edmunds, Kelly Blue Book. Research for a month before going, I did for 6 months because I wasn't in a hurry.

Also like new because I know how the car has been treated its entire life, which also makes it worth more in a trade and last longer if keeping it. Most newer used cars were two year leases and how are they used or cared for? Probably for business and who cares because its gone in two years...

Last truck I kept 12 years and still got 1/3 of what I paid for it back in trade. Sure I put money in, but less money than a new one would cost in payments. Just got to know that balance point where it is not really losoing value anymore, then keep it till it really starts costing money to fix. SOunds like your there..

SUV< cant help you because I would only pic American and sounds like you want foreign with a lot of seating.
