Wendy,

I like to say that I'd rather have fat cells, instead of cancer cells.  It is very common to gain weight, some more than others.  You have to understand nicotine is a stimulant.  Take that away and your metabolism drops dramatically.  Add in hand to mouth oral fixation and you get weight gain.  Some of us needed that to get us through for a while.  I don't mean to scare you, but I gained a ton of weight and you may not.  I was also smoking approximately 3 packs a day when I quit, I needed that.  I thought I was being proactive by starting to exercise and eating a little healthier.  By the time I was headed in the right direction, I had gained just about 40 lbs. in 3 months.    Yeah, but let me tell you something.  I will be forever glad for those 40 lbs.   If not for those 40 lbs, I would not have embraced my new, healthy lifestyle.  Quitting was a catalyst for change in so many ways for a lot of us.  Join us over in the Exercising and Healthy Living forum :)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
