Ideas for a dieting lunch on the go...

My Chris needs a diet, bless him. His decision before I get lynched :)

 

He is a mobile mechanic so physically active. What could I pack for his lunch that won't compund the weight problem? He always had 2 rolls, 2 crisps, breakfast bar and some other snacks.  I have subbed one crisps for fruit. What other calorie effective options could I use? He is basically doing what he always did but eating more cause of quitting 6 months ago, so need kinda snack ideas I can pack to keep him from doing himself in with unhealthy calories.

 

What do other guys have for lunch??  He thinks salad should go in a sandwich with real food (meat). One of those guys  :rolleyes:  but has asked for my help and suggestions, so I thoughts I might get some ideas from you guys?  Sure for a while at least he will listen as we holiday in a month and he wants to diet for that.

I subbed his crisps for low cal ones, skips (76 calories), quavers (89) and frisps are lower then walkers. He hasn't noticed lol. 

 

I'm not too worried about the rolls, I just bought smaller ones then he had before and that's all cool. But his breakfast is a cup of tea and a flask of coffee, so some carbs are good. It's the grab a snack stuff I need to work on. I tried cucumber sticks and he mumbled about manly men and rabbits haha. Carrots are ok though..go figure! 

 

So healthier snacks. Like maybe ritz crackers or something, are they any good?

boiled eggs are good and filling

 

roll ups - turkey ham with low fat cheese

 

baked crisps are good

 

rice cakes with low fat cream cheese and or turkey ham

 

cooked chicken legs (no skin)

 

cold wholewheat pasta salad

 

be careful of some packaged (low fat) as they usually substitute with loads of sugar for taste

My first thought is don't help him. Men, with all their muscles and testosterone, lose weight much more easily than women. Personally, I get green with envy every time my husband tries to lose weight. Three weeks of no french fries and switching to light beer and --bang!-- he's lost 10 pounds! I HATE that! 

 

However, if you want to be a helpmate, my husband sounds a lot like yours-- his idea of a salad is everything except the green stuff (i.e., no lettuce, cucumbers, peppers... lots of chopped egg, bleu cheese and shredded carrots  :P ). As I say, most of the time, if he just cools it on the high-calorie junk food-- like cheeseburgers, french fries and beer-- he loses weight. When he get SERIOUS about losing weight, his lunch consists of a sandwich, fruit, diet soda and a snack bar. He likes to use the high-protein high-fiber snack bars that are often marketed to men. Brands like Nutrisystem or Atkins or the like.

trail mix... but make your own...

 

I buy cashews, pecans, almonds, dried crabberries, dried blueberries, dried cherries in bulk. then I take a hand full of each into a container to mix and then fill up a bunch of snack bags. I grab one on my way out the door whenever I am going to be out for a while or on my bike rides. (note: the dried fruits make up for the unsalted nuts)

 

If I need to pack a lunch, I do the roll ups too... I roll ham cheese and mustart up inside a romain leaf... it is a great snack or meal depending on how many you take.

 

I also found that I really like pork baby back ribs the next day cold.. they are a great thing to pack in a cooler and take on the go....  I cook them now just to put in the fridge for the next day when I am heading out to an all day auction but remember to have extra napkins.
