A Cunning Demon

Jeffrey

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone- My first topic as a Newbie.

My quit is going well and I am following all the suggestions and using

all the tools to my best ability. Had to share this with you:

Today and a few times this week the Demon or Nicodemon hasn't

had anywhere to go because I've been strong and focused. Today I

had a "blank-type" feeling and I had to affirm to myself, "Hey I'm not doing

anything wrong, I'm ok, today." That nasty addiction had no where to go and wanted

me to feel bad just for the sake of it. How insidious, how cunning!

Please excuse me for personifying the "demon," as I call it. I do it for

conversational-purposes...I know that I am ultimately responsible for my quit.

I feel this demon trick (and  laughed at the absurdity of it after I caught on)

was one of my first newbie awakenings and some sign of growth for me.

Did/does this stuff ever happen to you? Meaning, things are going well

and the addiction (and me) looks to sabotage it.

I was a bit hesitant to start a topic, being so new. All of you have been so

greatly supportive ! You need to know I don't feel I got it all together...

on this Forum, I'm probably still the Head Nut in the Nutella Factory!  :D  :D

All My Best, Jeffrey

Good to see your post.

It's great when you start to pay attention to yourself

and stop the addiction speaking for you.

Admitting I was an addict really helped me to identify the Junkie I am.

You are doing great.  Many more blessings in store for you, for all of us.

You can call it the demon, monster, craving, slime ball, or what ever you want to call it, just so you recognize it, then you can deal with it!

It has many names and tricks up its sleeve so always be on your guard and if not sure come here for we have many demon slayers here to help you!

Glad you are doing so good in your quit Jeffery, keep on keeping on!

A lot of us seperated the addiction part of our brain from the rational part that wants to quit. Ladybug called her's Smokey and used to talk/swear/yell nope at it. Ava, was it you who did something similar?

I think it's really good to seperate them out! For sure I do, although I never named it, I often refer to it as nico-demon or the junkie, both terms I heard here and fitted for me :)  Do whatever you need to for clarity.

PS never be afraid to post, post a ton of stuff, everything you think of!!  Gives us all a chance to support you, also you never know who's reading. I lose count of the amount of times I got a pm saying thank you for posting that, I feel the same. Also for new quitters it helps to see hints and tips of how to cope, or what might happen. Plus it gives me and anyone else a chance to post too - which solidifies our quit :)  WIn win!!! x

Hi Jeffrey.....

Early in my quit.i referred to myself as a junkie.....it was to me the only way I related to the job in hand....

I used to talk to myself a lot.......we do whatever it takes ,what works for you....

What ever your thinking post here.....there's always someone....who has been there ,bought and wears the t shirt....

Your doing great.....

Hey Jeff, excellent job on your quit. You seem to be experiencing what a lot of us went thru a little over a month into our quits. I know for me that was really the only bad day I had with my quit was when I was about a month and some change into it.

You're doing great. Embrace your quit and keep moving forward. Stay on the Q-Train and keep posting. :)

Jeffrey,

Post and start threads whenever you want to! That is what the QT is here for. :D When everyone talks of climbing the rope I try to envision it. It helps me. People with older quits than mine ahead of me willing to reach out their hand and grab mine to boost me or keep me on the rope if I need it.

This is a great post and yes the "Demon" is cunning. Mine pops up out of nowhere and sometimes when you least expect it. I acknowledge and dismiss the thoughts because no matter what smoking is not on the table. I will never again put that crap in my body and reawaken the addiction. I believe in what I read by the veteran quitters that it will all get better and that these things will become fleeting thoughts.

8 months out they are fewer than they were at 1 month. If you keep climbing it gets better and better. Reach out when you need to because we will grab on to you. :D

Hi Paul, no need to be worried about starting a thread - start as many as you like!

I think this is real progress - OK, so you are having junkie thoughts, but you have identified them for exactly what they are, AND you have taken responsibility for it!

You are really going to make it, I can just tell... Way to go Paul!

Hi Jeffery,

I hate that annoying little voice in your head trying to sabotage your quit!

Keep ignoring it and it will start to shut up.

It takes some time but the voice will quiet down and visit less often as long as you continue to N.O.P.E.

Post away my friend that is what this place is for :)

Hi Jeffrey you post as often as you like, writing down thoughts helps a great deal, yes the demon nicotine junkie will pop its ugly head up when you least expect it, tap you on the shoulder and say Hi remember me!!, be vigilant, guard your quit, and if you want to post, post, take each day as it comes, commit to NOPE it does help, and do not be afraid of the quit, a lot of wonderful members here will tell you to embrace the quit, I never truly got that, but I will tell you something I do now, when I get a crave, I am not afraid of it, I tackle it head on, ahaha its a crave so what, it will pass, you are doing wonderful, once you recognise you are an addict then you can recognise what you are dealing with and tackle it and banish it.  xxx

Sounds like you have really got this - and the good news is that each time you have a win over the demon, addiction - whatever you want to call it - will make you stronger

Looking forward to reading more from you ! 3daa4cc69413a4a4fda538b0ecb14120_zps9b10
